That’s a wrap on our summer South Asian Play Reading Group! 🎭️

Over the summer, we’ve gathered every fortnight to read and explore plays by writers of South Asian heritage, from new work at different stages of development to older legacy texts that deserve to be brought back into the room.

We were so excited to have playwrights including Vinay Patel, Bala Murali Shingade and Adil Akram join us, sharing their work and talking with us about their writing.

Thank you to everyone who came along, read, listened and contributed. These sessions are an important part of creating space for South Asian writers, ideas and stories, while bringing our creative community together. We love our community and always welcome newcomers!

The Tara Theatre team is back and buzzing for the season ahead! ✨

At Tara Theatre, we believe in the importance of rest. So we took two weeks this summer to properly switch off, and we're coming back into the new season with fresh energy

And what a season it's shaping up to be. As we head into our 50th anniversary, we've got so much in store, from R&D for our brand-new experimental opera, to NOVA 2026/27, and plenty of new things yet to be announced.

Are you interested in experimental storytelling and new work?

We’re looking for performers for an exciting upcoming R&D with Tara Theatre for a brand-new experimental chamber opera.

What’s coming up:
✨️ Auditions: September
✨️ Main music rehearsals: October
✨️ Research & Development: November, including an on-book music run-through of the opera

We’re particularly interested and excited to hear from Global Majority and South Asian performers, operatic artists and singers.

There’s still time to join the third edition of this development opportunity for emerging South Asian comedians, delivered by Tara Theatre and Brown Sauce Comedy Club.
Take part in a free one-day workshop with established comedians and industry mentors, develop your material, build confidence and perform a five-minute set at a live showcase at Tara Theatre.

Every story starts somewhere✨️

For Vivek Nityananda, I Dream of Theresa May began as a NOVA commission in 2023. With support through readings, mentorship and creative development at Tara Theatre, the play grew from an idea into a full production on our stage in 2025.

If you're a playwright of South Asian heritage or connections with a story you're ready to tell, NOVA is here to help you take the next step.
