Next up - my right hand woman, an absolute legend of a storyteller, all-round brilliant actor and dream collaborator! You've got to come and see in her flow 🙏🏽😍🤩

Emer spun tales at her first Mayven festival in Cornwall this May performing alongside and Becca of It was magical and radical and Emer is delighted to bring some Mayven cabaret joy to London & thinks it only fitting that this event can help raise money for the
Palestinian Circus School. In honour of our hosts Emer will be paying tribute to the Feminists and Folk singers of 'Bread and Roses' and spinning a tale collected by Clapham's own Angela Carter.

Not to be missed! 🔥🔥🔥

Ffion Aynsley is a London-based musician, song writer and actor with experience working across these mediums in a range of contexts in the UK and Spain. Her relationship with music is rooted in her upbringing in rural West Wales; the landscapes, songs, sounds, voices, stories and melodies of which all feed and inhabit the music she creates.

I've been an artist in every one of the Mayven Festivals produced by and over the years I've seen the most wonderful, funny, beautiful work by a host of bloody marvellous Women. Now a few of us are bringing the Mayven to London. A Quarterly night of music, storytelling, comedy and art. Get your tickets now!

What is the Mayven you ask? That elusive stage in a woman's life between the Mother and Crone. A time of renewed independence, creativity, and giving zero f**ks. If the Mayven could be an event, it would be this. Join us to celebrate the Mayvens who came before us, those yet to come, and most importantly the Mayven inside. 🔥

Congrats 🤩🤩

We are so happy for this journey you are taking with Baki and loved making the audio version which toured as an installation in UK Theatre's and through Bangladesh

Posted • NEW photos (credit Polka Theatre) of my intergenerational / 'family' /9+ play, Baki, which means 'the balance' or 'part left owing' in Bengali last month at .

Nicholas Khan playing Grandad and Michael Soukhan playing Grandson, directed by associate Gavin Joseph.

I first wrote Baki as an audio play that toured exhibitions in Bangladesh and England for 's ambitious awards nominated programme in 2022.

It's been so interesting translating something for the ears and mind into something visual and with movement - I have my lovely team to thank for diving into the text and pulling so much more out! Crafting it for children is a combination of reckless fun and meticulous care all at once, and, honestly, i think something great for kids has even more layers for grown-ups!

The audience reaction - tears and laughter in just the right measure - was that, making up the balance, the baki, is such a universal ache that affects us all - wherever we are and whatever our background.

What was particularly special here, that i was so grateful to witness, was the relationship between men - three generations of one family told through the simplest of stories when an old man and a teenage boy stop to have a chat and manage to find a way to find out what matters and help each other get through to the other side.

Thank you to everyone who came and who have helped me in various ways to write and develop this play, which is based on my father's life. thanks Abdul Shayek, .po

"Hello! I am Desiree. I have been living in Bedford for almost 20 years!
My heritage is glazed in many coats of Italian and Iranian culture. I am a multifaceted artist, over the past nine years, I have become the author and illustrator of three self-published books, contributing to the current literature with underrepresented languages. I painted in oil and watercolour artwork exhibited throughout the UK. I perform and choreograph Classical Indian Dance pieces that tell stories of cultural identity.

Joining 'Tastes Like Home' felt like it was going to be both a professional learning experience and a deeply meaningful self reflection commitment around culture and personal history, contributing to my own line of work. Sharing Bedford's stories and memories through food has been a plunge into my own past within the community, connecting us all to the flavours and traditions that make our Bedford unique and for that reason I am very happy to have applied to this wonderful project."
