𝓕𝓛𝓞𝓞𝓓: Following his inclusion in RUNES (2026) earlier this year, we are delighted to be showing Jonathan Michael Ray’s work with OHSH Projects again.

Jonathan Michael Ray (b.1984) lives and works in Penzance, Cornwall, UK. He completed an MFA in Fine Art Media at Slade, UCL in 2016, and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University in 2007.

His multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, craft, photography, drawing, and installation. Deeply attuned to his surroundings, his work often grows from encounters with the landscapes and histories he engages with.

Collage and assemblage recur throughout Ray’s practice, regardless of medium. He often works with found objects, imagery, and text alongside his own, weaving their symbolism and emotional resonance into new contexts and layers of meaning. In addition to working with materials drawn from or connected to specific landscapes, a central strand of his practice involves the collecting, repurposing, and reworking of historical artefacts, most notably expressed in his series of antique stained-glass collage works.

𝙾𝙷𝚂𝙷 𝙴𝙻𝚂𝙴𝚆𝙷𝙴𝚁𝙴
This week we are sharing James Lomax’s solo exhibition ‘The Black Paintings’ at Sid Motion Gallery, London. We previously exhibited James’s work in our exhibition ‘Absurd’ (2022).

Taking its title and structure from Francisco Goya’s fourteen Black Paintings, Lomax presents fourteen windows cast in dark, unpigmented concrete. Where windows traditionally orient us towards the world beyond, here only narrow glimpses remain visible, transforming a familiar domestic form into something closer to a barrier or monument.

The works sit between shelter and confinement, asking what it means to look outward when our view is restricted. Lomax also draws on the idea of the ‘Overton Window’, the shifting range of political ideas considered acceptable within mainstream discourse. Through repetition and the weight and permanence of concrete, the windows become fixed and fossilised, holding the viewer in an uneasy space between protection, entrapment and uncertainty.

Currently closed for the summer break, The Black Paintings reopens on 3 September and continues until 5 September 2026.

𝓕𝓛𝓞𝓞𝓓: We are delighted to be exhibiting Carlos Zapata with OHSH Projects for the first time.

Carlos Zapata makes idiosyncratic carved and painted sculpture and installation. His work deals with many challenging and potent themes from poverty, conflict, religion and race, yet paradoxically, the overriding characteristics of the work are of empathy and compassion. Zapata’s work belongs to and takes inspiration from Folk and Tribal Arts from all over the world but specifically from South America, from its indigenous populous and the trade routes and traditions that have fed it over the centuries. Many of his sculptures have evolved from personal experience of living in a foreign land and from his home country where civil issues continue to trouble its people.

Carlos Zapata is a Colombian artist born in 1963 and living in Britain since 1984, He currently lives near Falmouth, Cornwall UK. Zapata has exhibited Internationally with works held in numerous private collections and museums around the world.

𝓕𝓛𝓞𝓞𝓓: Introducing Clementine Keith-Roach

Clementine Keith-Roach (b.1984) is a sculptor of new ruins. Her work centres around the process of plaster-casting. Casts taken from her body and other objects are melded with antique terracotta vessels and trompe l’oeil painted to create a continuous surface that blurs the boundary between body and object, skin and clay. Her works are reminiscent of archaeological artefacts, but they also propose new worlds to come. They are thus both funerary and pregnant with possibility.

Keith-Roach lives and works in Dorset, UK and is represented by Ben Hunter, London and P.P.O.W, New York.

𝓕𝓛𝓞𝓞𝓓: Re-introducing Ben Jamie

Ben Jamie’s practice delves into the depths of human emotion, employing paint as a conduit to explore themes of impermanence, memory, and the human condition. His imagery is frequently veiled and ambiguous, inviting viewers to construct their own narratives and interpretations.

Drawing from personal experience, historical reference, and introspective observation, Jamie creates layered, enigmatic works that exist in the fluid space between figuration and abstraction.

Born in Nottingham, Ben lives and works in London, UK.

𝓕𝓛𝓞𝓞𝓓: Introducing Sol Bailey Barker

Sol Bailey Barker (b. 1987) is a British sculptor and installation artist.

Sol Bailey Barker’s practice uses sculpture as a means of reassessing and redressing the human’s relationship with the natural world, encouraging a return to a phenological existence in harmony with nature and its cycles. Totemic carvings of ash, redwood and oak bring archetypal forms from the unconscious to light, their shamanic shapes suggesting the endurance of the mythological as the accumulated wisdom of generations. Abstraction here is common culture, familiar forms and materials a way of deconstructing the detached position of the viewer. These works act as conduits for the individual to reconnect to the greater whole that is nature, fomenting a sense of empathy and belonging.

Functioning as living portals, part guardian, part witness, these works hold catastrophe and regeneration in tension, proposing new modes of ecological consciousness that connect ephemeral past, volatile present, and speculative future.

An insight into Gus Farnes’ casting process for the new work he is creating for 𝓕𝓛𝓞𝓞𝓓

Working through a process of immersion, Farnes undertakes expeditions into marginal and historically resonant environments—from the ancient terrains of the west of Ireland and Wales to the wetlands, heathlands, sandlings, and fenlands of East Anglia. Rather than positioning himself as a traditional landscape artist, his work emerges as a response to direct experience: a physical and psychological engagement with place.

Central to his practice is an interest in how humans have marked, shaped, and worked the land over time. Farnes draws on forms of monument building—stone stacking, cairns, pyramidal structures, and inuksuit—as gestures that sit between necessity, navigation, and belief. His sculptures often incorporate materials gathered from the environments he inhabits, including stone, wood, flora, and discarded matter, embedding each work within the ecology it responds to.

His work is informed by an ongoing fascination with civilisation and sociology, often taking the form of a speculative or dreamlike anthropology. Farnes constructs narratives around imagined peoples—nomadic, liminal communities occupying estuaries, marshes, and peripheral terrains—whose presence is suggested through sculptural traces and symbolic structures.

Farnes’ current body of work centres on monument building as both act and language—an attempt to understand how humans locate themselves within landscape through marking, gathering, and constructing meaning.

𝓕𝓛𝓞𝓞𝓓: Re-introducing Guy Haddon Grant

Guy Haddon Grant’s monochromatic sculptures and drawings lie at the boundary between abstraction and figuration.

Haddon Grant (b. 1986, London) started his studies in Camberwell College of Art before moving to Florence, Italy for two years to study the renaissance masters and their techniques. He works in charcoal, candle soot, wax, plaster, steel and wood; creating enigmatic works with a narrative that informs one another.

Haddon Grant has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions notably the Bloomberg New Contemporaries at the ICA and the Liverpool Biennial. He has also exhibited at the British Figure at Flowers Gallery and has held two solo exhibitions at NISO Gallery and Roman Road.

In Collective Statement, the works of Hitoshi Nakasato, Max Wechsler, Mateo Revillo, Sawako Nasu, João Trevisan, Amanda Ziemele, Daniel Brusatin, and Guy Haddon Grant occupy the gallery without being forced into a single narrative or a rigid hierarchy. The exhibition moves away from the idea of art as illustration or symbolism; instead, it focuses on the raw mechanics of making—the calibration, structural clarity, and material decisions that define each practice.

𝙾𝙷𝚂𝙷 𝙴𝙻𝚂𝙴𝚆𝙷𝙴𝚁𝙴
This week we are sharing Jakob Rowlinson’s exhibition ‘REVIVER’ at The Art House in Wakefield, developed through a collaborative residency with Yorkshire Sculpture Park and open until 19 September. We exhibited Jakob’s work in ‘Dreamlands: Part 2’ (2021).

Working with reclaimed leather from discarded clothing and accessories, Rowlinson transforms fragments carrying traces of previous lives into intricate sculptural forms inspired by medieval and folkloric imagery. Angels, demons and the Green Man appear alongside references to q***r fashion and fe**sh culture, with natural dyes made from oak galls foraged in Wakefield embedding the works within the landscape itself.

Drawing on the life cycles of native butterflies, recurring motifs of wings, wheels and celestial forms evoke metamorphosis, renewal and continual change. The exhibition also responds to Wakefield’s history as a centre for the cloth and leather trades, and to The Art House itself, built on the site of a former medieval tannery, bringing local histories into conversation with mythology, ecology and contemporary q***r identity.
