Thank you so much to everybody who attended our IWD Scratch Night! We are so pleased with how the night went and feel thrilled to have created an exciting evening that celebrated new writing with female-voices at it's centre!

International Women’s Day Scratch Night Show ❤️‍🔥

CHERRY SOUR

Music is listened from the room where Cherry lived for four years. The Pink Flamingos' song plays from a scratched record and Cherry is standing outside the door thinking that that last fight wasn't his fault (although it was) and that maybe if he hadn't been high, drunk, with other women and with his drugies friends mocking on Cherry, he wouldn't have insulted her, beaten her, and humiliated her, and that even if he had loved her, even though she knew he didn't, she wouldn't have left the room.She imagined the recurring scenario where she opened the door, he asked for forgiveness and they started over, but this time it is not like that. She opens the door, and there he lies dead and Cherry is left alone. Victim of loneliness, she makes an act of survival: plead guilty to the death of Johnny Flamingo and from there, in the police interrogation, she tells us her story. A story of abandonment, dispossession, and violence, which forces Cherry to lose contact with the world, which was not difficult as he has no family, friends or anyone to rely on, reason why her loneliness always gave her greater security.

Debuting her satirical work Chelsea Tractor as a female vocalist and writer, Sarah explores 'swapping hats': performing under the lights rather than operating them. Well, actually, she'll do both at Thistle & Rose's Scratch night for International Womens Day - because why not celebrate all that women can do?

From quintessentially British Female Soul & Jazz influence, Chelsea Tractor satirically calls out the overbearing and overdressed upper class of South London. Have you ever heard an aggravating, grating voice yelling "HUUGOO" on the Northern Line? This one's for you x

Music Performance by Sarah Victoria

Sarah Victoria is a freelance Music and Sound Creative for stage and screen, with work ranging from studio engineering and production to composition & vocal performance as an Artist.

Sarah's screen credits include Waco Untold: The British Stories (ITVX, 2023), Warped Kart Racers (2022) for Disney & Apple Arcade and Wineville (2024). In stage, she was recently Assistant Composer on an upcoming dance production for ZooNation, ICON Theatre & Amina Khayyam Dance Company, and has written original music for Thistle & Rose Theatre Co's Beneath A Cups (VAULT Festival, 2023). As a member of the BBC Open Music Scheme for 2023/24, Sarah was chosen as one of 30 creatives from over 900+ to undergo training and mentorship in music and sound production.

GO GO BOOTS GO

Charlie runs a bridal shop. Clelia is getting married. The two women exist as strangers, their lives running in parallel without ever touching, until their paths intersect. As they search for the perfect dress, they spill secrets, laughter and desires with a familiarity that defies logic. Their story unravels and it becomes clear that Clelia and Charlie share a connection which runs deeper than it seems. "Go Go Boots Go" is a razor sharp and heartfelt comedy exploring the shame we carry from childhood, the speed at which women can become intimately connected, and the people we meet briefly who leave an indelible imprint on our lives.

The Womb. This is a place where no one knows the address, but everyone knows how to get there. This is a place where no one knows what it is, but everyone is familiar with it. This is a place where no one knows if it’s real, but everyone knows what they feel is real. Maybe not everyone, but every woman. Women come here to forget. But can they? Can they forget the things that made them end up in this place?

The Womb is an absurd play about the absurd things that women have been going through since the beginning of the world. Be prepared to laugh at how utterly ridiculous and weird this play is, and ask yourself if maybe the world of The Womb and the world we live in might not be that far apart after all...

Aylin Rodoplu (she/her) is a Turkish multi-disciplinary artist based in London & Istanbul. While she is in her final year of studying acting at East 15 Acting School, she is also busy producing, writing, and composing.

Elise Xiaqi Eriksen (she/her) is a multi-disciplinary creative engaged in several areas of the entertainment industry in the UK and her home country Norway. Her main areas of focus include writing, directing, acting, and producing for both screen and stage.

Tara Mcmillan (she/her) is a Turkish/Jamaican actor based in London since 2022. After doing her BA in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul, she recently completed a master’s degree in acting at East 15 Acting School.

Gabriela Mahé (she/her) is a Spanish/Colombian actress based in London. Gabriela is a trained dancer who moved from California to London to study drama. She will soon be graduating from East 15 Acting school and pursuing her career in both theatre and film.

Niomi and Kiki meet at a jumble sale as Kiki picks out materials to create a Stegosaurus costume. Broke, Niomi sees potential for a business plan, and these two painfully under qualified business partners team up to form a children’s entertainment company founded in fraud, lies and a flawed booking system.

Kat Stidston is an actor/writer from Essex who loves writing and performing female-led comedies. As a proud Thistle & Rose Theatre fan & collaborator, she is excited to once again be a part of a Thistle & Rose Theatre project for International Women's Day - bringing forward women's voices with "gasps and giggles". She hopes that 'KUTHBERTS PARTIES' will lend itself well to 'Thistle & Rose' Theatre’s motto. She is excited to see creative women taking centre stage.

Nicole Cuthbert trained at East 15 Acting School and her recent credits include ‘Sabbath’ by Gavin Fleming (2023) and a one woman show titled ‘A Hundred Words for Snow’ (2022). As well as acting, Nicole is a highly skilled singer and writer with a strong passion for comedy; something she is keen to explore through Kuthbert’s Parties.

Giulia Hallworth is a young q***r actor/director who recently graduated East 15’s BA Acting and Contemporary Theatre course where she first got into directing. She recently directed two 4* shows at VAULT festival, with her directorial debut ‘Hutchy the Hare’ being nominated for Show of the Week. She strives to create safe open rehearsal spaces that allow the creative team to explore the light and dark of life through theatre.

'PER-VERSE', Georgie's WIP show sharing her experiences of dating told through the five senses in bursts of stand-up-spoken-word-poetry.

ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAM:

Georgie is a writer and performer based in London. She has performed her comedy poetry at large spoken word and mixed-bill events, including headline sets at ‘SAYS Events,’ ‘Moetry’ and ‘Rhymes & Stitches’. She is currently developing a show blending stand-up and spoken-word, whilst working in film and TV production.

Ilya is a director and a co-founder of Threepenny Collective, a plurinational group of passionate writers, directors, and theatre makers with a shared interest in bridging the disciplines of film and theatre.
