What memories can a surface hold? 🌊

Artist of the Season Winner Kristine M. Karo approaches landscape as something lived, sensed, and remembered.

Through textured abstraction, she explores the emotional relationships between environment, movement, and memory.

Working across painting, photography, and mixed media, Karo builds layered surfaces that echo geological formations, tidal rhythms, and weathered terrain. Marks accumulate like traces of time, revealing landscapes shaped as much by feeling as by place itself.

Sound, atmosphere, and material presence play a central role within her practice, creating works that extend beyond the visual into a more immersive sensory experience.

Her exploration of displacement, resilience, and reconnection reflects a journey between Latvia and the United Kingdom, where memory becomes embedded within texture and form.

For Karo, abstraction is not distance from reality.
It is another way of experiencing it.

Can a landscape hold memory? 🌿

Artist of the Season Winner Rosie Leventon approaches landscape as a living archive, layered with traces of human presence, ecological change, and forgotten histories.

Working across sculpture, installation, and environmental art, her practice responds directly to place.

Stone, earth, water, wood, and reclaimed materials become part of quiet interventions that blur the boundaries between artwork, environment, and archaeology.

Environmental sensitivity sits at the core of her work. Many installations are created not only as sculptural forms, but as active participants within the landscape itself, supporting biodiversity, inviting reflection, and encouraging renewed attention to the fragile ecosystems we inhabit.

Portraiture is never neutral 🎨

Artist of the Season Winner Kate Emily Kelly’s practice moves beyond likeness, exploring how painting can carry biography, memory, and shared experience.

Through collaboration and feminist inquiry, portraiture becomes less about fixing identity and more about creating space for complexity to exist.

Kelly embraces process as part of the narrative itself. Rather than concealing construction lines and layered marks, her paintings reveal their own making, traces of revision, movement, and time left intentionally exposed.

Working with egg tempera, watercolour, and coloured pencil, she creates portraits that feel both intimate and evolving. Surfaces remain open and unresolved, allowing each work to hold tension between vulnerability, strength, and becoming.

In Kelly’s work, the unfinished is not absence.
It is possibility.

This Earth Day, we turn art into action! 🌍✨

We’ve planted 30 new trees in the Amazon Rainforest on behalf of our Artists of the Season and Seasons of Change community. 🌱

Supporting efforts to restore biodiversity, heal degraded lands, and uplift local communities is a small but meaningful step towards long-term impact.
