If you’ve got a big idea, the first step is to believe in it. If you don’t believe in it, why should anyone else? If you don’t believe in it may it’s not so great. That’s okay. You have to dig through a lot of dirt to strike oil, and you might have to dig through a lot of bad ideas before you find one that’s valuable. The important part is to keep searching until you find something that you believe in with confidence. Because now the genuine hard part starts. Convincing other people that it’s great. Most, if not all, great ideas were thoroughly trashed when presented.

Ignaz Semmelweis discovered that if doctors washed their hands, medical patients died less often. Back in the day, doctors would perform autopsies on dead patients and then put their hands all over the living. Ignaz noticed hand cleanliness reduced the mortality rate of patients. Doctors at the time found his suggestion that they were unclean downright offensive. Ignaz died in a mental institution well before anyone cared to listen to his great idea.

You never forget that smell in the air when you find yourself near the ocean. The salty water crashes endlessly against the sand, spraying a mist into the breeze that travels inland to let you know you’ve arrived. You are here. Stepping in the sand is like stepping onto another planet. Each step is an unknown journey as it shifts beneath your feet. You almost feel like you’re learning to walk all over again when the grains collapse inconsistently. But you are here. With a spread towel and umbrella protecting you from a torrent of rays from the sun. The wind again carries every new ocean spray towards you, saturated with molecules released from the ocean. Thousands of years could have passed traversing the vast oceans until they’re finally free to find you on this day. To remind you that you are here. The waves crash endlessly to birth these floating memories, with oscillations moving in and out like a natural metronome, trying to find a balance. No different than your breath in a state of meditation. The pulse of mother nature lives in these never-ending transactions between the land and sea. They were here long before you arrived, and they will be here long after you’re gone. But you are here.

Art is subjective. Everyone values a work of art differently, and I’m not talking about money. How does it make you feel? There’s value in that. How does it change the world? There’s value in that. And of course, how much does it cost? There’s still value there too. The subjective value of art is what makes it so unique and exciting. Art has an impact on the world around us which is undeniable, so it is appropriate that art is one of the first implementations for NFTs.

NFTs are a technology that will change the world, and there’s tremendous debate around their value. When you buy an NFT, though, it settles the dispute on how much that NFT is worth. For the first time, a digital asset can be owned and traded without compromise of those rights. There’s still much to be decided around the debate of how much NFTs will change the world, but one thing will be for sure - it will be settled on a blockchain.

Every great story has a beginning, a middle, and an end. And for any story to exist, it needs to start. Ethersneaks is here and now. We’re creating footwear-inspired art NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain with all the same hopes, dreams, and inspiration that lead to the start of Ethereum’s story. Block by block, step by step, we can all achieve great things. The most crucial moment is that first step. We’re releasing our first NFT sneaker, “Shoe Landing,” today.

Engineers worldwide helped build this first shoe design, working tirelessly day in and day out under tremendous pressure. We didn’t want our first step held back by anything — including gravity. We aspire to be out of this world, and so our first step needs to match. We achieve great things together, and every blockchain is a testament to that.
