“Oxford, in those days, was still a city of aquatint. In her spacious and quiet streets men walked and spoke as they had done in Newman’s day.”

Back in Oxford for campus recruiting yesterday, returning after so many years with some art. The city feels just the same. My last visit was 2019, before COVID and before I started painting. Glad to speak with students about careers in finance and everything beyond it, e.g. art!

Fusing ancient Chinese calligraphy, illustration and collage, this piece reflects the Taoist ideal that the sky and earth endure by nurturing all living beings, while placing themselves last. In an environmental context, we should think long-term and preserve the resources on earth, not only for ourselves, but also for future generations and the entire ecosystem.
