Love birds
This whimsical conversational design was painted in a traditional watercolour mix, drawing inspiration from the Pennsylvanian German folk art of the late 1700s – this strong but naive style was used to decorate manuscripts, textiles and furniture, using motifs such as hearts, birds and flowers.

Embracing a quintessential Arts & Crafts aesthetic, the original design for Orchard was created in 1976 and showcases a mirrored trail of graceful leafy branches and fluttering butterflies, interspersed with clusters of blossom flowers and citrus fruits. Part of the LBTY collection, perfumer Gabriela Chelariu was inspired by its organic, flowing trellis to create Liberty Maze, which with its notes of Jasmine and Honeysuckle captures the vibrant impressions and fragrant aromas of a sunlit summer’s day.

Thorpe

Thorpe was drawn for Liberty by the Hayward Studio in 1968. The dense small floral design is reminiscent of Liberty’s iconic 1930s floral prints, and a mixture of these will have provided the inspiration for Thorpe.

Wiltshire is a classic leaf and berry print, originally designed for Liberty Fabrics in 1933. Like Betsy, it was created by the designer with the initials DS. It has been part of the Classics collection since 1979.
