FELIX VOLOSSENKOV

Strength (La Force) — Musketeer, 1999

Wood, mixed media · 94 × 50 cm

A commanding musketeer emerges through fragmented planes of red, blue, green and gold.

The theatrical costume and sweeping hat suggest authority, but rough textures and shifting
outlines introduce humour and vulnerability — strength understood as resilience rather than
brute force.

Felix Volossenkov was a celebrated St Petersburg painter, graphic artist and theatre designer
known for radical experimentation with materials. His works are represented in major
Russian and international museums.
