“The eye is enticed by a path, and the mind’s eye also.”
from ‘The Old Ways’, book by Robert Macfarlane

Join us at The Department Store in Brixton, for the next exhibition! Opening on Saturday 18 Oct, from 2-6pm.

Striding Edge, a vertiginous ridge on Helvellyn in Lake District, encapsulates contradictory human instincts to push things to extremes but also to maintain the balance needed to navigate a treacherous road.

Ambiguity is part of making art, across disciplines, languages, and geographies.
Materials change, and the outcomes are rarely certain.
The systems that support artistic work are inconsistent—if they exist at all.

Many of us are already working inside that collapse.
Still, something holds.

Artists build informal networks, collectives, and forms of solidarity that exist outside official structures. Care becomes infrastructure. A shared resource, a message, a recommendation—these small acts sustain practices through uncertainty.

Striding Edge is a real place—narrow, exposed, uneven.
It’s also where many artists work now:
Between disciplines, across borders, without guarantees.
Precarious, but not alone.

Come and meet the works by 32 international artists, including artists and guests!

'Time to time', my most recent exhibition at the Safehouses in Peckham - London, has come to an end. Thank you to all those who passed by, stayed for a chat, were close by but couldn't make it, and all those who have helped me, and continue to encourage me along the way x 🖤

here is a collection of photographs.
my works were on show alongside beautiful pieces by the lovely artists part of - a really supportive international network I am proud to me a part of

I chose to show a selection of works from the Skidia Salad project focusing on sea fennel growing along the coast of Thasos, that I have been working on (when possible) since my stay on the Greek island last summer. These are last works I was able to share with my dad who recently passed away. I hope I will continue to feel his presence by my side at my shows, and while working in my studio.

Skidia Salad: Intervening
natural, raw clay, pigments, medium, marble
2024-2025

Skidia Salad: Taking and giving

feeling grateful to be part of a an exhibition opening in May, at Safehouse 1 in London, alongside artists from all over the world.

in a particularly struggling time for me, I am happy to share new work, questions and doubts, stepping into a space that holds so many different voices and perspectives.

if you’re nearby, it would mean a lot to see some familiar faces.

My journey in creating jewellery began as a natural extension of my broader artistic practice, where I work with photographs, clay, and paint to develop installations, sculptures, and visual pieces. What started as a personal practice—making jewellery for myself—soon became something I felt compelled to share. I wanted to create pieces that could become a cherished part of someone else’s collection.

In the early stages of my process, I collect fragments of nature—leaves, flowers, and other small treasures—which I photograph, capturing the intricate details that make each one unique. These observations inspire me deeply, and I study them carefully, allowing the textures, tones, and contrasts of nature to guide my designs.

Specializing in delicate, distinctive earrings and simple jewellery, I use natural clay and glaze to bring these inspirations to life. Each piece is individually handmade in my studio, where I shape, glaze, and fire the clay with great attention to detail. Every design is unique and, however similar, are ever the same. A bit like the flowers or leaves I collect.

To complement the natural beauty of the clay, I use high-quality sterling silver findings, carefully selected to be nickel-free, as I have a personal sensitivity to nickel. This commitment ensures that each piece is not only beautiful but also comfortable and safe to wear.

In all my work, I believe in the quiet elegance and power of simplicity, and I hope that my creations bring a little beauty and strength into your life.

Do you feel like balancing your creative practice with family responsibilities is a challenge without much (or any) support?

“Wouldn’t it be glorious if all of this were the stuff of the distant past? If artists didn’t feel pressured to choose between motherhood and a successful career? If the art world wasn’t hung up on the carefree youth? If a woman in her late forties wasn’t seen as ‘mumsy’ and unserious, exhibiting again after taking a break to raise children? If family wasn’t considered a trap for women, because childcare was equally shared between partners? If mothers in the public eye were no longer judged for all they did and didn’t do?”
— From ‘How Not to Exclude Artist Mothers (and other parents)’ by Hettie Judah, 2022

We believe that the art world has been exclusive for far too long, however, although there’s still a lot to do, the paradigm is shifting. You are not alone.

We are curating an ever-growing collection of resources specifically for parent-artists —from supportive networks and inspiring podcasts to residencies that welcome families and essential readings.

You can explore them in the "Tools" section of our website (link in bio). ✨

This collection will continue to expand as we extend our research, so be sure to check back for updates! 📚✨ Follow to find out more as we share this collection right here on Instagram.

Do you know any initiatives that support parent-artists? We’d love to hear from you! Send us a DM or an email [email protected]

Let’s build a more inclusive art community. Because when we work together, we are stronger. 💪

Zoë Rivas Zanello explores trauma in relation to our environment and the natural world, with a focus on fragmented perception and the female body.
Drawing from Ecofeminism and Psychology, in connection to her own memories, split between rural and urban spaces, she gradually collects objects and documents a landscape, focusing on those affected or threatened by processes of transformation or erosion. In a deep, intimate and emotional enquiry, she elaborates these using photography, digital tools, sketches, natural pigments, clay, photographic transfers, old fabrics, discarded wood or metal offcuts.
