đź‘€ Blink and you'll miss me!

This weekend is your last chance to visit my studio along with some of the other 100 artists taking part in this year's South East Open Studios across Sussex and Kent. Got a guide, you'll find me and my fellow Hastings artists on page 66 (studios 78–80).

Even better, just across the road from my studio you'll find the wonderful work of and . Three artists, one road, what a joy!

My late open studio day until September:
Saturday 20th June, 10am–3pm

I'd love to welcome you, show you around the new studio, share my artworks and some recent Memory Boxes commissions and talk about upcoming workshops.

South East Open Studios 2026

I always find it difficult to get out and visit other artists when I'm busy opening my own studio. And with more than 100 artists taking part in this year's South East Open Studios, there is certainly plenty to choose from.

Here are a few of the artists and studios I'm hoping to visit:

Studio 71
Hop Garden Yard is home to ten artists working across painting, ceramics, woodworking, glass and textiles. I'm particularly drawn to the work of Viv Kirby at Wildroots Textile Art .

Studio 76
I'd love to see Nicola Russell's ceramic sculpture made from 450 slip-cast eggs, representing the fertility window.

Studio 78
My fellow neighbours, Marie and Consuelo, are exhibiting together. Marie's collage, mixed media and painting explores human relationships, while Consuelo's ceramics draw on nostalgia and childhood memories.

Studio 81
I caught a glimpse of Annie's beautiful linocuts when collecting my South East Open Studios signage and can't wait to see more.

Studio 82
I was immediately drawn to the depth and texture in Liz Berry's mixed media work. She also designs stationery, so I suspect I'll be stocking up my card drawer.

Studio 87
Eloise Dethier-Eaton's paintings and prints use still life to tell the stories behind objects, which naturally caught my attention. She also practises marbling, one of my favourite art forms.

One of the joys of Open Studios is discovering artists and makers you might never otherwise come across. Have you visited any studios this year? I'd love to hear your recommendations.

Studio Snapshot

When I'm out hunting for vintage treasures, it's not just the little finds that catch my eye. Along the way, I often come across larger pieces that are too special to leave behind.

I love creating little scenes with them on my studio shelves. To earn a place, an item has to be particularly beautiful, unusual, or simply make me smile.

Moving into the new studio gave me the chance to unpack everything and decide which pieces I felt most connected to. These are the treasures that made the cut.

Do you have a favourite? Mine is the toy fishing rod complete with red horseshoe magnet.

Highlighting... The Pocket Collection (2024)

Last week, I was delighted to learn that another artwork from my Pocket Collection has found its forever home. Lady Detective was one of several pieces included in the South East Open Studios group exhibition at West End House Gallery, and I'd like to say a big thank you to Karen and Patricia at for showcasing my assemblage art.

The Pocket Collection is a series of eight intimate artworks that invite you to imagine the lives of their owners through the treasures they carry in their pockets. From a mischievous schoolboy to a Victorian lady detective and a dedicated DIY enthusiast, each piece offers a glimpse into a unique character and story.

So far, five of the eight artworks have found their forever homes, but three are still available: No. 6 Man About Town, No. 5 The Seamstress and No. 2 School Boy.

You can view these pieces online (each image links directly to my website), or better still, come and see them in person at the studio.

What other characters’ pockets would you most like to peek inside?

Last week was a final push to get the studio finished and I’m finally in!

It’s such a lovely space to work in, and a huge thank you to Michael at for all his hard work getting everything ready so quickly.

Today, the new window panes are being installed (one cracked during fitting a couple of weeks ago), along with the finishing trim, which will really complete the space. In between dodging the window installers, I’ll be tackling the mountain of boxes that still need unpacking and organising. Wish me luck!

I’ll also be catching up on emails and DMs, as I’m running a little behind. If you’ve sent me a message, I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Right, off I go!

And she’s up!

I finally went through the lovely bundle of signage the team at gave me this morning and got my sign up on the gate. It all suddenly felt very official, letting the neighbours know I’m here and what I do.

Now, fingers crossed I’m fully moved in before my first open day. I think it’s going to be all hands on deck!

If you’re in the Hastings area, I’d love to welcome you into the studio and share my work, and new creative space, with you. I’ll be opening the studio doors throughout June from 10am to 3pm on the following days:

Week 1: Friday 5th, Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th
Week 2: Saturday 13th
Week 3: Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th

If you’re local but can’t make those dates, just drop me a message. I’m sure I can arrange another time for you to visit

A couple of weeks ago, a wonderful client sent me a bundle of old keys she no longer had use for. Aren’t they gorgeous? I love imagining all the doors, cabinets, and sideboards they once opened, and what might have been hidden inside.

What I especially love are the handwritten labels on some of them, like the one on the last key. They add such a lovely human touch.

A big thank you to Susan for sending these to me. I can’t wait to give them new homes within future pieces, where they’ll be celebrated once again.

Studio Renovation - Days Five to Eight

We nearing the end of the build part of the renovation and things have been steaming along. The insulations is in, the plaster board is up and today the plasterer has been in. Tomorrow is another day of plastering and we will finally be getting the new roof on. What I especially love is that you can see how big the new windows are going to be, so exciting!

My new worktop and flooring arrived today and tomorrow I have an Ikea delivery coming so I’ll be able to (back permitting) crack on with building the new units ready for next week. And I’m really hoping the wood for my sign turns up, really want to start hand painting that.

I’m so happy with how it is all coming together. Big thanks to Mike and Marcus at and electrician John for all their hard work.

Studio Renovation - Day Three & Four

I can’t believe we’re already at the end of the first week of the studio renovation. We’re now at that middle stage of any building project where things feel a little less dramatic, but there’s still so much going on.

The stud work has been completed, with just the last of the noggings to go in on Monday. (Noggings are the horizontal pieces of wood between the studs, and currently my new favourite word.) I can finally see how big my new windows are actually going to be. It’s going to be amazing to have such a beautiful view out over our garden and the trees of Linton Gardens.

The biggest change this week was that the roof came off and new ply went down, ready for the top layer to be added.

Behind the scenes, I’ve been busy ordering worktops, sets of racking, and a new IKEA plan chest-style drawer unit for my vintage treasures. My son decided he liked my old one for all his different TCG card sets!

Next week should bring lots of visible progress once the insulation is in and the plasterboard goes up.

Thanks again to Mike, Marcus and John at for all their hard work this week.

Studio Renovation - Day 2

A slightly slower start today. Turns out yesterday’s enthusiasm caught up with me and my back wasn’t thrilled about it. Add a 4:50am wake-up call courtesy of a bin-raiding fox, and I was definitely running on low energy. Fewer photos today for that reason!

While I took it a bit easier, Mike and Marcus powered on. By 11am the tongue and groove was down, and when I got back around 2pm, boom, the first wall was up. Even though I knew it was coming, it still felt like a big moment seeing it take shape.

In between rests, I mapped out the studio layout, planning positions for sockets, lighting, and the extractor fan. I also ordered the heater John, my electrician, recommended. After years of freezing in different studios, I’ve finally invested in something decent to keep the space warm.

Hoping tomorrow is kinder to my back. If so, I’ll be up early marking out units on the floor, making sure I actually leave enough room to move. My husband has his doubts...

And don’t forget to vote in your local elections 🗳️
