Every game builds to a single moment.
A moment where every move, every strategy, every piece on the board leads to one final stand.
CHECKMATE.

After the Pawns build the foundation, the Knight broke the lines, the Bishops opened the Board, the ultimate power of the game steps forward - the King and his Queen.

Introducing CHECKMATE.

At the heart of this moment stands the Queen - the most powerful force on the board. And the source of inspiration for this presentation. She is bold, fearless and limitless in her movement, she commands the game with grace, strategy and unstoppable presence. She moves in every direction, adapting, leading and dominating the field with confidence and control.

She is power.
She is precision.
She is presence.

But no throne stands alone.

Beside her stands her King - steady, resolute and unshaven. The anchor of the Kingdom, the piece every strategy protects and every move revolves around. His strength lies in endurance, leadership and the quiet authority that holds the entire game together.

Together they represent balance.

Power and purpose
Grace and resilience
Where the board meets it's final move.

This is CHECKMATE.

Every game reaches a moment where the strategy sharpens and every move carries weight.

The ENDGAME.

After the Pawns laid the foundation and the Knight charged into motion, the board begins to open. Lines appear, paths reveal themselves. And from the corners of the board, the Bishops stop into their power.

Introducing ENDGAME, the Bishops.

They are the visionaries of the board.
Moving with purpose, cutting across the game with precision and foresight. While others move forward, the Bishops sees the angles - readying the board for when the balance shifts.

In Mas, this becomes elevation.

Within this section, some masqueraders will rise as Moko Jumbies - towering figures rooted in Caribbean tradition, guardians who watch over the road from above. Moving with grace and authority, they embody the Bishop's role - elevated, watchful and powerful in presence.

This is elegance with strategy.
Height with vision
Mas with mastery.

This is ENDGAME.

From the quiet strength of the Pawns, the game begins to shift...

Every move builds momentum, every step sets the stage. The Pawns honored the hands behind the magic - the builders, the dreamers, the ones who move the board forward.

Now the Knight enters.

Introducing KNIGHTFALL - Mas In Motion.

The Knight is the game changer. The unpredictable force. The piece that doesn't follow the straight lines of the board but leaps beyond them. In mas, it is movement, powerful and fearless expression.

And in The Year Of The Fire Horse, that energy burns even brighter. Fire Horse energy is bold, Untamed and impossible to ignore - a spirit that charges forward with passion, courage and unstoppable momentum.

Knightfall embodies that spirit.
A warrior of rhythm.
A rider of the road.
A force that breaks formation and sets the pace.

When Pawns laid the foundation, the Knight commands the charge - bringing speed, style and fearless Mas to the front line.

The board is set and every square tells a story.
Welcome to Queens Gambit, where the smallest pieces make the boldest impact.

Often underestimated but always essential, Pawns are the heartbeat of the chessboard. They lead the charge, protect the kingdom and when they reach the other side..... they transform.

This section celebrates the grinders, the risers, the everyday heroes of Carnival culture. The early morning builders, the costume makers, the wire benders, the seamstresses and tailors, the glue stickers, the road staff, the cooks and servers, the website and IT infrastructure - the community that holds it together and keeps it moving - one powerful step at a time.

In chess, the pawn is the soul of the game.
On the road, the people are the soul of the movement.

2024.

What a year. A short season that pulled and tugged at every inch of my sanity. One foot always on the ledge, ready to jump off. A year of change. We are the last carnival of the season and this year, that was felt. Hard.

It takes many teams and elements to come together to do this work, and to those that fall under this umbrella, you carry the culture forward one more year.

Thank you to the design and creative team that put these costumes out: Lisa, Mel, Riss, Linda, Dell, Bryan, Ven, Andrew, Elwin and everyone who put ah hand.

This was a Bacchanalia first.

A model unlike any other. An ass kicking, martial arts performing, STUNTWOMAN. She caused a RIOT with this performance!!
