Today’s what on board is modelled by - Luīze 🫶🏼

Tonight, we are really excited to welcome the renowned Cornish folk duo, Neil Davey & Hilary Coleman with support from Duncan McTaggart (and more) in a showcase of Cornish folk music. There will be a session and singaround in the bar afterwards, so bring your instruments down!

On Friday the bar is open from 4, and on Saturday we open at 2pm. Please note that the bar will be closed from 6pm on Saturday for a pirate event ;). If you are interested in hiring the venue yourself, please do reach out! It really helps support the rest of our arts programme.

In collaboration with our friends at Phase Magazine, on Sunday we are screening Hard Day’s night - the black-and-white British comedy that follows the Beatles through a frantic, semi-fictionalised 36 hours. Part of the BFI’s “Rip it Up” season, the screening will be paired with a live performance from the band ‘August’ et al described as “a five headed beast living in a couple of hard to pin down apartment blocks between Harry Nilsson, Tom Waits, Beck, and TV on the Radio.”

Monday is our regular folk singaround “Songs on the Water” hosted by Lileth Chinn. Bring your voices, songs and instruments for a night of ballads, shanties, dances and tunes.

On Tuesday, we have another BFI “Rip it Up” event, this time collaborating with the brilliant .asisa for another evening of . We will be screening Stud life - a street-smart, q***r drama set in East London. The screening is paired with a live performance from K Bailey (aka DRYBABE), a community organiser, musician and poet.

This week’s What’s On board kindly modeled by Alan Burgon and Øystein Ulsberg Brager, co-founders of The Amelia Project. After last year’s sell-out success, the unique interactive audio-fiction podcast has returned to Theatreship this week with a brand new show “Laplace’s Demon”, followed by a debut screening of their new short film “Delivery after Dark”.

On Friday, we are so delighted to be continuing our partnership with Phase Magazine for our next BFI “Rip it Up” event - a series of screenings celebrating the changing face of youth rebellion over the last 75 years. We will be screening “24 hour party people” a frenetic chronicle of the birth of rave culture, followed by a live performance from Spanish Horses, a London-based, Parisian post-punk group.

On Saturday, we will be celebrating the music of Arthur Russell. Through intimate performances by Myer U Clark and August Cooke , this event revisits Russell’s deeply personal songs, honouring the warmth, curiosity, and boundless creativity that continue to make his music feel timeless.

On Sunday, we have an open call for musicians, poets and more. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or sharing your work for the first time, “Sharing” is a welcoming event to present work to an appreciative audience of fellow writers, musicians, and creatives.

On monday we have bi-monthly folk singaround “Songs on the water” hosted by Lileth Chinn. Starting from 7:30pm, everyone is welcome to share traditional folk songs and tunes from all over! A night of shanties, dancing, ballads and community.

On Tuesday, World Builder presents the short silent film “A Convict’s Tour to Hell” with a new live-performed soundtrack from Export Import . Described as an evening of music, film, poetry and performance, all centred around the surreal and the uncanny - it looks set to be a really special night.

On Wednesday, we are back to our regular free Mystery Cinema having had a (rare) week’s gap. This is a night celebrating film, offering a unique cinema experience - you won’t know what the film is until you’re sitting in your seat! New dates have just been released for the 13th, 26th August and 2nd September!

Apologies for the massive wall of text! So many of you have been so supportive and concerned we wanted to give a full update.

Looking forward to seeing you all onboard again soon - and with any luck now, for many years to come!
