Tonight, we have our weekly free mystery cinema. A night designed to add an element of surprise to your cinema experience. Come on down - you might discover a new favourite! We release two clues for the film are story and newsletter. First correct guess at the bar wins your round of drinks on us!

Tomorrow, Broadside Hacks will be taking over the ship to present a very special evening of music from Josephine Foster, honouring longtime collaborator Victor Herrero . This musical collaboration - where folk meets lieder, country blues and classical guitar - leaves us with an intimate and restrained performance, with voice and guitar held in careful balance.

On Friday and Saturday, we are hosting two evenings of Free Late Night Mystery Cinema nights! Similar to our Wednesday mystery cinema night, this evening is an opportunity for us to showcase cinematic masterpieces with a higher age rating. Same rules apply - first person to guess the film wins their round of drinks on us!

On Sunday, we have our daytime Scandi Session, where musicians and listeners join to enjoy traditional folk music from Sweden, Norway and Denmark. This is an open session, so everyone is welcome to play and contribute!

Sunday evening brings us Acoustic Music vol. 16, one of our favourite regular music nights hosted by Vincent Curson Smith. A night of intimate sets from some of the most exciting musicians in London, for this edition we are excited to welcome Canty and Ekin 🇨🇾🍉.

On Monday, Lileth Chinn hosts our regular folk singaround Songs on the Water. Recently featured in Nat Geo Traveller, this is a popular night of folk songs and tunes from around the world.

On Tuesday, We Are Doc Women present a screening of “Lost Stars of the Horoscope”. Winner of the Amnesty International Human Rights Award, this film follows Three Ukrainian girls displaced by the war navigate the quiet complexities of growing up and rebuilding their lives in Estonia. This important screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Katrina Lehismäe.

On Thursday 1st October, we have a night of live music, with Joy of Life Intl presenting Private View, with Sam Swinson (Ohtis, slide 2), Michael Clark (Lichen), and Ben Woods (The Golden Dregs) performing unreleased music from upcoming releases. There are still a few tickets left for this on DICE, grab one fast!

We’re so proud to be curating a special programme as part of the BFI’s ‘Rip it Up’ season, celebrating the changing face of youth rebellion. On Friday 2nd October we’ll be showing two films with young women at cross roads of youth and adulthood. ‘How to Have Sex’ captures the messy reality of growing up in modern Britain – set during a chaotic holiday in Greece, it blends friendship, partying, and vulnerability with an unfiltered sense of realism. Short film ‘Between Two Worlds,’ from director Lila Rose Loughlin (.rosee1, trailer on slide 3) as she uncovers the story of her mother, Rachel, who grew up immersed in the New Age Traveller movement. Tickets for this are only £5 on Eventbrite.

On Saturday 3rd October our collaboration with National Theatre Live continues! The Misanthrope, starring Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) follows Alice, a brilliant novelist, who despises the carefully constructed lies of modern society. But the more she challenges those around her, the fiercer the backlash becomes. Soon, she must confront the price of speaking her truth in a world that would rather silence her. Trailer snippet on slide 4, tickets for this are also only £5 on Eventbrite!

During the day on Sunday 4th October, we’re thrilled to be hosting Hong Kong Film Festival UK with a sold out screening of Patrick Tam’s under-seen gem from the golden age of 1980s Hong Kong cinema, ‘My Heart is The Eternal Rose,’ a little clip from the trailer is on slide 5.

This weeks what’s on board is kindly modelled by the lovely king claud & ꪮꪶỉ ᠻꪗ᭢ꫀ, who are running their KICK THE DOOR DOWN💥 workshops and performances onboard today as a part of Totally Thames Festival.

Tomorrow (Saturday 26th September) you can come to take a peek behind the curtain of your favourite artists’ creative processes. At ‘Works in Progress’ presented by Skydaddy presents ‘Works in Progress’, we’ll be joined by Jasmine (Ugly), Misty Miller, Hugo Winder-Lind, Lily (English Teacher), Georgia (The Last Dinner Party) & George Orton (Bug Teeth), who will play and discuss unfinished songs and ideas that they’re working on. If you’re a keen songwriter, this will be a really special event to gain insight into many the many different ways there are to build a song.

On Sunday 27th September we’re looking forwards to hearing Ivors Classical award winning Nneka Cummins’s new EP ‘Finding Gills’ for the very first time. Hosted by , we’ll be treated to a listening session of the EP, brand new performances from Nneka and .bailey, and also have the opportunity to ask questions to both of these extraordinary artists.

On Monday we’ll be welcoming and his guitarist Meg for an intimate performance of some of his newest songs, alongside some classics. This event sold out very quickly but we’re excited to see all of you that managed to snag a ticket.

FREE: on Tuesday 29th September, we have our regular folk singaround hosted by Lileth Chinn. A night of folk songs, tunes, shanties, ballads, and the rest, everyone is welcome to share folk music from around the world.

FREE: on Wednesday 30th September we have our regular Mystery Cinema Night – reserve a free ticket and come to experience a film that you otherwise never might. It’s always a lovely atmosphere in the bar beforehand, so come and hang out with us and try and guess the film to win a free round of drinks!

Last night, we had a special event. Hosted by , Salones des Refuses is a new free event of music and readings.

Tonight, join us for free late night mystery cinema, kicking off at 8pm. Similar to our regular Wednesday mystery cinema (where you don’t know what the film is until you are seated), this evening features films with a higher age rating but that are still wonderful artistic gems. Make your guesses for the film at the bar to be in with a chance for a free round of drinks!

On Sunday, we are excited to welcome to the stage for their album launch, a project weaving together elements of improvisation and free-association into off-kilter art/chamber pop songs. This evening is hosted by An evening of “acoustic” music and Falling Moon, with support from .

On Monday, we have our regular folk singaround hosted by Lileth Chinn. A night of folk songs, tunes, shanties, ballads, and the rest, everyone is welcome to share folk music from around the world!

Wednesday brings us to our free mystery cinema night. New dates have just been released for tickets on our website - get in their quick, they go like hot cakes! On that note, Theatreship is nominated for BIFA’s cinema of the year (wow - thank you!). If you love our venue and free cinema as much as we do, please head over to their website and vote for us! Tomorrow, we are very excited to welcome Glass Eel to the stage, with support from Ropeburn and Mabel Clarke for a night of alternative and folk adjacent music.

On Saturday we have a special matinee screening of “Akishina.
Speak not Silence” presented by the Russian Democratic
Society. A fascinating film about the life and works of Russian avant-garde artist Marina Akishina and paired with a Q&A from her friend and film director Maria Sandler.

In the evening, we are very excited to welcome back Arko Mukhaerjee and Ashram for an evening of pan Indian, Bengali and Himalayan Folk songs in an ethno-electronic-roots sound, where Kathmandu & Kolkata meets Berlin.

On Sunday and Tuesday we have the next of our BFi “Rip it up” events in partnership with Phase Magazine. On Sunday we will be screening cult-comedy-classic Human Traffic, with live music from atmospheric electronic trio Christine Ho
- and on Tuesday we are showing Shane Meadows’ “This is England” followed by a live performance from shoegaze alt-band WASABI!

Today’s what on board is modelled by - Luīze 🫶🏼

Tonight, we are really excited to welcome the renowned Cornish folk duo, Neil Davey & Hilary Coleman with support from Duncan McTaggart (and more) in a showcase of Cornish folk music. There will be a session and singaround in the bar afterwards, so bring your instruments down!

On Friday the bar is open from 4, and on Saturday we open at 2pm. Please note that the bar will be closed from 6pm on Saturday for a pirate event ;). If you are interested in hiring the venue yourself, please do reach out! It really helps support the rest of our arts programme.

In collaboration with our friends at Phase Magazine, on Sunday we are screening Hard Day’s night - the black-and-white British comedy that follows the Beatles through a frantic, semi-fictionalised 36 hours. Part of the BFI’s “Rip it Up” season, the screening will be paired with a live performance from the band ‘August’ et al described as “a five headed beast living in a couple of hard to pin down apartment blocks between Harry Nilsson, Tom Waits, Beck, and TV on the Radio.”

Monday is our regular folk singaround “Songs on the Water” hosted by Lileth Chinn. Bring your voices, songs and instruments for a night of ballads, shanties, dances and tunes.

On Tuesday, we have another BFI “Rip it Up” event, this time collaborating with the brilliant .asisa for another evening of . We will be screening Stud life - a street-smart, q***r drama set in East London. The screening is paired with a live performance from K Bailey (aka DRYBABE), a community organiser, musician and poet.

This week’s What’s On board kindly modeled by Alan Burgon and Øystein Ulsberg Brager, co-founders of The Amelia Project. After last year’s sell-out success, the unique interactive audio-fiction podcast has returned to Theatreship this week with a brand new show “Laplace’s Demon”, followed by a debut screening of their new short film “Delivery after Dark”.

On Friday, we are so delighted to be continuing our partnership with Phase Magazine for our next BFI “Rip it Up” event - a series of screenings celebrating the changing face of youth rebellion over the last 75 years. We will be screening “24 hour party people” a frenetic chronicle of the birth of rave culture, followed by a live performance from Spanish Horses, a London-based, Parisian post-punk group.

On Saturday, we will be celebrating the music of Arthur Russell. Through intimate performances by Myer U Clark and August Cooke , this event revisits Russell’s deeply personal songs, honouring the warmth, curiosity, and boundless creativity that continue to make his music feel timeless.

On Sunday, we have an open call for musicians, poets and more. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or sharing your work for the first time, “Sharing” is a welcoming event to present work to an appreciative audience of fellow writers, musicians, and creatives.

On monday we have bi-monthly folk singaround “Songs on the water” hosted by Lileth Chinn. Starting from 7:30pm, everyone is welcome to share traditional folk songs and tunes from all over! A night of shanties, dancing, ballads and community.

On Tuesday, World Builder presents the short silent film “A Convict’s Tour to Hell” with a new live-performed soundtrack from Export Import . Described as an evening of music, film, poetry and performance, all centred around the surreal and the uncanny - it looks set to be a really special night.

On Wednesday, we are back to our regular free Mystery Cinema having had a (rare) week’s gap. This is a night celebrating film, offering a unique cinema experience - you won’t know what the film is until you’re sitting in your seat! New dates have just been released for the 13th, 26th August and 2nd September!
