How to make Electronic Kicks feel ALIVE? 👀

06/05/2026

Field Recordings & Music - underrated or overrated? Perceptually field recordings can do more to your music than any other element; it should be tempting to use them to evoke depth and dimensionality. Incite a situation or provide deeper context! It is a way to invite space to your audio and interactivity with the extra active brain activity of the listener!

Next time you make a loopy record, consider adding a field recording to add a more natural ir vital pulse to the piece.

Expanding on the 90s House music workshop from last week with some final shorts output before we move on into into the coming week’s workshop on Exotica music (a super overlooked and sexy genre).

The staple sounds of house hits seem to be tied to Korg M1 presets Juno106 baselines and 909 Drum Kit 🌀

So next time you are trying to make that 90s house hit wonder consider adding one of those especially if you want to play on the listeners associative memory :p more likely to land on a chart too.

Hope you enjoyed this one. See you soon.

The 1-7-5-6 Chord Progression is arguably the most loopable chord sequence ever! Let me know in the comments if you have a competing suggestion! It would be wise to note that one down in your music production sticky notes.

Am using Bicep Glue as a reference here and playing over a template I created. Using a string Juno pad.

90s Rave scene saw much of this chord progression btw.

In this video I describe the reasons why it is so loopable. Why the chord pivot so smoothly. And more.

Hope you enjoy this one.

Best Trick for Choppy Vocals - This sound is quiet famous at the moment within the front row music production circles and electronic music artists like four tet, skrillex, Fred again, bicep etc are championing it in the mainstream. But as a matter of fact this signature sonic effect has been famous since the 90s trance scene and acid house and doesn’t stop be so 🤷‍♀️

Anyway I tried a bunch of not all the techniques possible to create this choppy box / vocal effect. And am sharing with you straight up the best one ☝️

Am demoing it in Ableton Live but you can use the same principles and guide in whatever DAW you are using or a hardware rack setup!
Enjoy

The hidden tricks & secrets behind the Classic House Piano sound that you heard on many 90s house records or recent hits. It is surprising to tell you that it is fairly easy to design this sound.

In this video, I share with you the techniques needed. First stack a crispy piano and a full or mallet organ sound sources together in an instrument rack in your DAW or by parallel sequencing both sound sources on your rack or hardware gear. Second, control the envelopes making them as short and snappy as possible. Third, compress for focus. Fourth, apply light chorus. Fifth, EQ for brightness. And voila 💥

Everything you need to know about Relative Modulation 🎶 the easiest style / intro into modal music when we use the mirror scale sharing the same notes but with a different root to expand on our theme. One great approach is to use the V chord of the minor root to pivot to the relative major, or to use the IV chord of the major root to transit to the relative minor, making the pivot smooth as the smoothest criminal out there🌀
