Come and meet renowned British photographer Tony McGee.

Between 3pm and 8pm on Friday 16 October, London’s very own Tony McGee, photographer of countless fashion campaigns and close collaborator with David Bowie, will be at Iconic Images Gallery Piccadilly to meet fans, sign books and talk about his work.

A born storyteller with a vivid memory, Tony is almost as gifted a conversationalist as he is a photographer. How did get his shot of The Small Faces loitering outside his Pimlico home when he was in his early teens? What did Bowie like to listen to as he was photographed? How did Tony manage his session with a young Kate Moss in 1989?

To hear these tales and more, and to view his stunning exhibition Fame, Fashion, McGee, visit us at 16 Waterloo Place between 3pm and 8pm on Friday October 16. Entry is free and no ticket is required.

More Beautiful Than You Chelsea

More Beautiful Than You: The Wildlife Photography of Chris Packham will be displayed at our Chelsea gallery from 22nd October -28th November.

Chris Packham is one of the UK’s most influential voices on nature, biodiversity and climate. Combining powerful visual material with an urgent contemporary perspective, the exhibition is designed to engage a wide public audience while provoking deeper reflection on humanity’s relationship with the non-human world. Due to the overwhelming popularity of its run at our Piccadilly gallery in March, Iconic Images is excited to bring Chris’ beautifully captured creatures to our location at 402 King’s Road.

The show is open to the public and free to view, with all fine art prints on display available for purchase and free shipping.

For more information, contact Gallery Director Ashwin Rattan at [email protected]

Nothing New: Works by DaddyBears

This October, Iconic Images Gallery Piccadilly presents Nothing New: Works by DaddyBears, a one-week exhibition of textile sculpture and mixed-media works by British artist DaddyBears, curated by the art critic Maeve Doyle, who describes the exhibition as “a golden opportunity for collectors and curators”, adding that it is “vitally important” to champion exciting artists at the beginning of their careers.

Across seven works, DaddyBears transforms satin, stuffing, wood, thread, canvas and beads into strange, seductive forms that shift between bodies, furniture, toys and miniature architecture. Working with pattern cutting, hand sewing and found materials, DaddyBears takes techniques associated with fashion, domestic labour and “women’s work” and pushes them into uncanny sculptural territory.

Nick Acavo, Assistant Director at MoMA PS1, describes DaddyBears works as ones in which “time, labour, and intimacy are embedded into fabric and form.”
Collectors should not miss this unique opportunity to view the works of a young, already highly regarded artist showcasing her singular work in the heart of London.

Day of the Daughters

In celebration of International Daughters Day, we’re enjoying a selection of images which capture the unique bond between parents and their daughters.

In 1964, Terry O’Neill photographed Judy Garland and Liza Minelli backstage during Minelli’s run at the London Palladium. These touching mother-daughter portraits show the pair, both legendary in their shared field, smiling into the camera, their faces close. Later that decade, O’Neill captured British supermodel Twiggy alongside her mother, framed by the front door of their semi-detached house in Neasden, North-West London. In the 70s, O’Neill shot Debbie Reynolds with her daughter and fellow actress Carrie Fisher as they performed a song together.

Eva Sereny’s beautiful image of American actor Ryan O’Neal and his daughter Tatum was taken on a 1973 assignment for The Sunday Times Magazine, shortly after the release of Paper Moon, a film in which the duo co-starred. Only 10 years old, Tatum won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance, making her the youngest ever Oscar winner, a title which she holds to this day. Five years later, Sereny captured Linn Ullman, daughter of legendary director Ingmar Bergamn and Norwegian actress Liv Ullman, in a series of warm, autumnal shots alongside her mother in New York’s Central Park.

In 1977 Gered Mankowitz photographed folk legend Donovan with his daughter Astrella Celeste in London; only 6 years old at the time, she would go on to follow in her father’s footsteps, becoming a successful composer.

Sereny Celebrated in Stardust

Iconic Images have contributed three images from the archive of Eva Sereny to Stardust: 100 Years of Stage, Screen and Celebrity, a photography exhibition by Hundred Heroines, the only UK-based charity focused on women in photography, in collaboration with Sisters of the Lens, a research group celebrating women photographers.

Sereny’s portraits of Mia Farrow, Romy Schneider and Audrey Hepburn exemplify what the photographer did best: capturing the essential charisma of movie stars, especially women, in a single frame.

The exhibition is on display until 22 November at Hundred Heroines Museum, Unit 41, Nailsworth Mills, Pensile Road, Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, GL6 0BS.
