Born in Matsumoto on 22 March 1929, Yayoi Kusama grew up with parents who didn’t support her love of art. Despite this, she went on to study art in Kyoto and would go on to revolutionise New York’s male-dominated art scene and become an installation sensation. In her immersive exhibition at Tate Modern, two celestial installations are shown alongside fascinating early records of the artist's experimental performances.
