🎒 FOR THE GROWN-UPS: You’ve got this. ❤️
The first day of school is a massive milestone for our little ones... but let’s be honest, it’s a huge emotional moment for us grown-ups, too. Whether it’s your first child starting or your last, that first drop-off can bring up a lot of big feelings.
We always hear about children being "school ready," but what about us? Here are Little City’s top tips to help you navigate the big day:
1. Stay positive (even if you’re faking it!) 😉
Your little one looks to you for reassurance. They pick up on our emotions, so keeping your tone upbeat makes a huge difference.
💡 Tip: In the run-up to September, bring them to a Little City session! Playing with our classroom setup lets them explore those "big school" feelings in a safe, familiar space.
2. Ask all the questions 📝
If you’re unsure about anything, just ask. Teachers, staff, and fellow parents are all in the same boat. (And yes, those class WhatsApp groups really do come in handy!) When you feel confident, your child will too.
3. Be kind to yourself ☕️
It’s an emotional day, full stop. Give yourself permission to feel it all. Arrange to see a friend, partner, or family member after drop-off for a coffee and a debrief. Heading to a Little City session with younger siblings afterward? You’ll always find a warm welcome and a friendly face to chat with.
4. Prep for pick-up time 🛑
Expect tired legs, hungry tummies, and very few answers! Bring a snack, keep the afternoon calm, and skip the aggressive interrogation. A gentle "What was your favorite part?" goes much further than a long list of specific questions.
You are doing an amazing job, parents. Take a deep breath, you’ve got this!
👉 Save this post for September, and share it with a friend whose little one is starting school this year.
