A Message from Our Producer

As another remarkable season comes to a close, I want to take a moment to thank every single person who joined us for Death of a Landlord.

This has been our biggest and most successful tour to date. Each season, we continue to perform in more theatres across the UK and Ireland, bringing a brand-new case to audiences who embrace the unique responsibility of becoming the Jury.

One of the greatest pleasures of producing Murder Trial Tonight is watching our audience become completely immersed in the case. During the interval, theatre foyers transform into jury rooms, with strangers debating the evidence, challenging one another’s opinions, and discussing the verdict with people they’ve only just met. Even more rewarding is hearing that these conversations continue long after the curtain falls—sometimes for days afterwards. It is a truly unique theatre experience, and one that never fails to amaze us.

This season produced one of the strongest overall verdicts we’ve ever seen. Across more than 100 performances, an incredible 82% of Jury Members returned a verdict of Not Guilty.

From the feedback we received, many of you felt there simply wasn’t enough evidence to convict. However, the real case contained one crucial piece of forensic evidence that ultimately persuaded the original jury.

During the trial, the Detective testified that the blood discovered on the wall outside the defendant’s door the following day was still considered fresh. From a forensic perspective, blood begins to change almost immediately once it leaves the body and comes into contact with a surface. Fresh blood remains liquid, glossy, and chemically unaltered for only a limited period of time. The prosecution’s argument was that this evidence directly linked the defendant to the scene of the murder.

Despite this, the defence barrister, Cavendish, successfully persuaded the vast majority of our Jury Members that the blood evidence alone was insufficient to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt. Likewise, Tre Bennett’s aggressive and confrontational behaviour in the witness box did not convince enough of you to question his involvement.

Serving as a juror is never easy. The burden of deciding another person’s fate requires careful consideration, and often the strongest defence is not the evidence itself, but the ability to challenge certainty and appeal to reasonable doubt. This season demonstrated exactly how persuasive that can be.

I would also like to pay tribute to our outstanding cast. Their commitment, professionalism and energy throughout this lengthy tour have been exceptional. Every performance demanded complete focus, and they consistently gave everything to ensure our audiences received the highest quality experience.

Behind the scenes, our dedicated crew deserve equal recognition. Their hard work, involving countless early mornings, late nights and long journeys transporting the production from venue to venue, is what makes this tour possible. Murder Trial Tonight is very much a team effort, and I couldn’t be prouder of everyone involved.

As we now prepare for our fifth season, we are incredibly excited about what lies ahead.

For Season 5 – Death in the Family, we have introduced an entirely new dimension to the production—something that will fundamentally change the way our Jury Members assess the evidence before reaching their verdict. Without revealing too much, audiences will be asked to think more deeply than ever before, making the experience even more immersive and thought-provoking.

Alongside this exciting evolution, we are also preparing for the international expansion of Murder Trial Tonight into North America—an important milestone in the show’s journey and one we are immensely proud of.

Next season, Death in the Family has been one of the most challenging cases we’ve ever created. It explores difficult and emotional themes, tells a powerful story, and raises questions that will stay with audiences long after they leave the theatre. Every season, our ambition is to deliver a bigger production while ensuring the integrity of the story remains at its heart. We genuinely believe this will be our most compelling case yet.

Tickets for Season 5 are already on sale and selling quickly, so we encourage you to secure your seats early.

Finally, thank you to everyone who supported us this season. Thanks to you, Murder Trial Tonight has achieved record-breaking attendance and has grown into one of the UK’s most unique and talked-about live theatre experiences.

So, the question remains…

How many verdicts have you got right across the first four seasons?

Tag the Jury Member you’ll be bringing with you to Season 5 – Death in the Family.

We look forward to welcoming you back into Court very soon.

Thank you.
