I would like to share something quite personal. A life update I could keep private, many would choose to, however, I have made a very conscious decision to share it.

In July, I will be having a preventative, nipple-sacrificing double mastectomy and reconstruction. Before you ask, I am not ill. However, I carry the BRCA1 genetic fault. Some of you may know what this is, for those who don’t, here is some brief context.

In short: we all have a BRCA1 gene, but there are faulty versions. If you inherit the BRCA1 fault, your lifetime risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer, including at a younger age, significantly increases. Generally between 60-79%. I’ll share more on this in time.

Because of this high risk, the NHS offers preventative options: routine screenings (which I’ve been doing) and preventative surgery. A mastectomy can reduce risk by around 90–95%, bringing it much closer to that of the general population.

I’ve been sitting with this since 2021. It has already shaped my life.

So why share this? Because knowledge is power. Discovering my family carried this fault gave me some agency over something deeply surreal.

This knowledge places me in a position that is both difficult and privileged — and one of responsibility. Silence doesn’t serve me here. If this helps even one person feel more informed, or less alone, it matters. And I need to share this to process as an artist.

Also…
I’m inviting you to witness and join me as I respond to this creatively. My body is going to change. Irreversibly.
And my work lives in the body. You’ve already known it - through movement, performance, visual art. This is its next iteration.
The next negotiation.

So this becomes a project.
A living one.
Before surgery.
Immediately after.
And everything that follows.
Not polished.
Not resolved.
Just honest.
An exploration of loss — physical, symbolic, imagined.
What does it mean
to choose loss?
To meet it
head on?

I’ll be opening this up :
R&D spaces, collaborations, documentation.
If you feel drawn, you’ll find your way in.
more info to come. Stay with me✨

I was scared of clowns as a kid now the clown has turned into a vessel for freedom and play that not only gives me happiness but allows me to connect and share that joy with others. However, the clown also makes it ok to feel beyond just joy, to sit in the moment and be present with life, to fail and look for new solutions. A profound act when we are told we must keep going. The clown will access the human condition we share and not apologise for it. Allow us to smile at all it can be.

The new year is in full swing and I am taking a moment to let the opportunity’s that brings fuel me. The world is going through a lot right now and some days that is hard to take but I am wishing for all a year of kindness, care and to make the most of all the things that fill you with passion and energy. In this picture that is Port wine for me I guess 🙃 But also, just relishing in a moment of gratitude that I get to do the thing I love everyday and more than that share the world of theatre and art I love most days with others. Life changes all the time so mark the moments that matter.

Dirty mirrors make good filters. It’s been a weird old day. Today’s movement lesson is how to move for yourself when it matters.

As a teacher I spend my days holding space for others and honestly it is one of my favourite thing about my job but it feels hard to remember how to hold space for myself on the days I am allowed to stop. I have learnt from my students how to acknowledge when things don’t feel right. It’s not about dwelling in the lows but accepting them without shame. I have always had severe moments of anxiety without knowing what it was for most of my life. Even when, like now, my career and personal life are good. So I listened when people said I was too emotional or that it’s what everyone has so don’t worry… invalidating the feeling. Now, for me, by identifying anxiety it can be possible to move through it, not easier, but sooner. Today I made it to the gym by the evening after a day of lying in bed and it felt so good and I feel a bit more like me, a moment of honest moving for no one else but me was today’s achievement. We are always learning how to handle ourselves.
