IJAD Dance Company

IJAD Dance Company As digital performance specialists, IJAD push the boundaries of choreography, science and technology to take dance to the next level.

We also run Open Online Theatre (OOT), a specialised platform for the performing arts, offering artists opportunities to incorporate the creative use of technology in their performance practice. This includes training in how to create hybrid work for live streamed and live audiences and monetise the process.

Imagine a performance that evolves because of you.

As part of the HAMLET project, IJAD Dance Company will introduce Murmurs. A unique co-creative hybrid performance where audience ideas, prompts and reflections become part of the creative process.

Blending live performance with emerging technologies, Murmurs explores how Generative AI can support collaboration between artists and audiences, creating immersive experiences that are shaped together.

This is more than a performance – it's an invitation to help imagine the future of creativity.

We're proud to announce that IJAD is one of 11 partners in the HAMLET project – an ambitious European project exploring how Generative AI can support the Cultural & Creative Industries.

The HAMLET project brings together artists, researchers, developers and creative professionals to build a human-centred future where technology enhances, rather than replaces, creativity.

From AI-assisted choreography and immersive theatre to next-generation gaming, XR and innovative creative tools, the project is exploring exciting new ways to create, perform and experience culture.

This is about building the future of creativity, together.

If we're losing artists, what knowledge are we losing with them?

Analysis of Office for National Statistics employment data suggests the number of people working as dancers and choreographers has fallen by almost a third since 2019.

Too often, artists are recognised only for the performances they create—not for the imagination, systems thinking, collaboration, research and problem-solving they contribute across sectors.

At IJAD, we're working to change that through the development of the Artistic Intelligence Contribution Framework.

By taking part in our anonymous 10-minute survey, you'll help build evidence for the intellectual and relational value artists bring to interdisciplinary work and support better recognition and fairer remuneration.

Help make artists' invisible work visible.

"I'm really encouraged to see initiatives like the Sky Foundation Dance Bursary, funded by The Julia Rausing Trust, investing in the next generation of dance artists.

Too often, support for artists is viewed as an investment in culture alone. In reality, it's an investment in innovation.

At Innovation Lab Day 3: Human AI – Artistic Intelligence, one of the most important conversations we had was about recognising the unique value artists bring. Not only through performance, but through imagination, critical thinking, collaboration and the ability to navigate complex interdisciplinary challenges.
As dance increasingly intersects with AI, immersive technologies, research, education and healthcare, artists are no longer working at the edges of innovation, they are helping to shape it.

Supporting artists isn't simply about funding creative careers. It's about investing in the creative intelligence that fuels new ideas, challenges assumptions and helps society respond to increasingly complex problems.

Programmes like the Sky Foundation Dance Bursary create opportunities for emerging artists to develop their practice at a time when our sector needs fresh voices, bold perspectives and new ways of working.

Congratulations to Sky Foundation on launching this initiative. I hope it's one of many investments that recognise artists not just as cultural contributors, but as essential partners in shaping the future."

Artists working across creativity, technology, science, education and research contribute far more than creative outcomes. They bring ideas, critical thinking, collaboration and problem-solving that too often go unrecognised.

We're working to change that.

Following Innovation Lab Day 3: Human AI: Artistic Intelligence, IJAD is developing the Artistic Intelligence Contribution Framework, an emerging research tool to help evidence and recognise the intellectual, creative and relational value artists bring to interdisciplinary projects.

Now we need your voice.

Complete our anonymous 10-minute questionnaire and help shape a framework that could influence how artists' contributions are recognised, valued and fairly remunerated.

Help make artists' invisible work visible.

Please share this with artists and collaborators working across disciplines. Every response strengthens the research.

What happens when artists, technologists, researchers, venue leaders, funders and audience specialists come together to explore the future of creativity?

A room full of ideas. Thought-provoking conversations. New connections. Big questions. And a shared ambition to build a future where technology supports performance art, rather than undermines the people who create it.

Innovation Lab Day 3 may be over, but the conversation is only just beginning.

What was your biggest takeaway from the day? Or, if you weren’t there, what’s one question you think we should be asking about AI and creativity?
