Tri Sasongko, a revered Javanese artist, masterfully blends traditional Batik with contemporary techniques, crafting art steeped in spiritual storytelling. Influenced by his family’s 200-year batik legacy in Yogyakarta, Indonesia..
His global exhibitions, including UNESCO and ASEAN art awards, showcase his talent. Tri Sasongko’s artistic prowess, nurtured at The Indonesian Institute of Fine Art (ISI), led to solo exhibitions and explorations into hand-dyeing techniques, enriching his fabric designs. His studio in Taman Sari welcomes art enthusiasts for immersive batik workshops. His art journey blends tradition, innovation, and a passion for evolving Batik’s legacy.

Who are the master artists that inspire you?

I draw from the pioneering spirits of Pablo Picasso, Aubrey Beardsley, and Egon Schiele, I seek to synthesise elements of their groundbreaking techniques and distinctive styles into my own artistic voice. Through a fusion of fragmented perspectives, intricate detailing, and emotive figuration, my art endeavors to pay homage to these influential artists while forging a path toward an expression that is uniquely mine. Their legacies continue to fuel my creative exploration, guiding me toward an artistry that seeks to challenge, provoke, and resonate with audiences on a visceral and emotional level.
I am also inspired by the Indonesian master Affandi Koesoema. Affandi’s known for his emotive and expressive style, and influences my work through a shared emphasis on conveying emotion and narrative depth. Affandi’s bold strokes and emotive use of colour resonate with my exploration of vibrant hues and emotional storytelling.

Fakhra’s version of four french pheasants playing a game of cards was inspired by Paul Cézanne and as a homage to his works created her own version with hatching and cross hatching also brush strokes in which the energetic directional and gestural strokes make the painting come alive with movement and contrast and beautiful colours for the tones of the skin .

A combination of red and blue, purples bring out a regal and dignified colour and the brown invokes a sense of nostalgia of old paintings with the Smokey brown and purple. The intensity and energy in the painting above was created by using variations of the colors, and.The opposite symbology and meaning of each color strikes a message and interest in the viewer.

Paul Cézanne depicts four men, three sitting at a small square table playing a game of cards and one standing to the left in the background watching the card game unfold before him. To the right background are four smoking pipes hanging on the wall and a curtain to the edge of the composition.

A condensed version of this painting with four figures,. At 65.4 x 81.9 cm (25 3/4 x 32 1/4 in), the composition is with a viewers’ perspective slightly closer to the game, but with less space between the figures.

Fakhra’s beautiful version of card players incorporates Cézannes famous style of two male figures sitting on a table and playing cards.

Fakhra’s Brushstrokes offer a unique signature like a fingerprint.

The other thing about them is that they help convey or communicate the concept of the work. Bold colours could be painted with bold brush-strokes reinforcing the idea of boldness or loudness or force. The strokes here are softly swaying in violet and blue which can be seen in many of her works.

The Card Players is a series of oil paintings by the French Post-Impressionist artist Paul Cézanne. Painted during Cézanne’s final period in the early 1890s, there are five paintings in the series. The versions vary in size, the number of players, and the setting in which the game takes place.

For any information please message.

Interesting fact:

One version of The Card Players was sold in 2000s to the Royal Family of Qatar for a price estimated at $250 million ($325.2 million today), signifying a new mark for highest ever price for a painting, not surpassed until November 2017
