"How do you get people to talk to you?"
This is a question many people ask when first starting out in interactive performance. Immersive theatre has been around for decades, but many people still see theatre as a format where there is a separation between audience and performer. The edge of the stage in a "traditional" show is an impenetrable border that cannot be crossed in polite society. So how do we as performers negotiate the sudden mixing of audience and performer when that border disappears?
The key is CONNECTION and INVITATION! Connect with the audience, wherever they are, and invite them into the story. No two immersive performances are ever the same because in immersive work, the story is not to be read and relayed, but rather to be discovered by both actor and audience.
In our upcoming workshop, will teach you specific verbal and non-verbal techniques to forge this connection between audience and performer. You'll leave more confident in your ability to engage audience members who have never experienced interactive performance as well as seasoned veterans.
