Joseph Southall Exhibition - May 2026

We are excited to announce that our May exhibition will be dedicated to the work of the Birmingham artist Joseph Southall - we believe the first show on the painter for over twenty years (since the Fortunoff Collection at the Fine Art Society in 2005).

Held in association with we will be showing over sixty works by the artist, the majority offered on the market for the first time, including pictures in tempera, watercolour, pencil, pen and drypoint.

A fully illustrated catalogue can be purchased from the gallery and is also available online or through a link in our biog above

Henry Payne and Charles March Gere lived in nearby by Amberley and Painswick respectively. Both Arthur Gaskin and Southall painted in Minchinhampton and neighbouring Box.

Help needed …

We are working on the catalogue for our May show “Joseph Southall - A Late Romantic” and are trying to identify the subject of this drawing. It appears to be a Cotswold or Midlands town and is dated by the artist to March 1917

Any suggestions much appreciated !

Spring is here with Ian Archie Beck …

One more day to view our exhibition “Ian Archie Beck - Seasons in Suburbia” (closing 13th March at 6 Mason’s Yard). We have hung the show left to right across the gallery in order of the seasons - starting here with the rich spring blossom chronicling (for the most part) the streets near Ian’s St Margaret’s home

If you have missed our show it will be possible to view selected works from the exhibition at the gallery for the next few weeks. Please see the link in our biog for the online catalogue.

In some our favourite drawings in the forthcoming Ian Archie Beck show in Mason’s Yard, Ian uses some toned vintage paper stock he had to hand. In this example, the paper lends a wonderful Autumn colour to the artist’s beautifully economical painting of a street in Isleworth on a November morning …

Exhibition Announcement

I first came across Ian Beck’s radiant watercolours of west London’s suburbs in a wonderful book published with charting the seasons near the painter’s Twickenham home during lockdown

I am now delighted to announce our Spring show at our gallery in Mason’s Yard (our first ever exhibition dedicated to a living artist). It will be a retrospective of Ian’s work in watercolour and acrylic, again told through the seasons of the year. Please come and see the show during the first two weeks of March.
