For we're sharing our top 4 interactive workshops and assemblies for students around this topic.

1. The Serious Chat - Mental Health
This workshop covers discrimination; physical health vs. mental health; Mental Health Conditions vs. everyday mental health; symptoms & treatment of some conditions including Anxiety, Depression, OCD & eating disorders.

2. The Serious Chat - Managing Anger
So important for young boys especially - we look at the facts, laws and consequences of violent crimes, carrying a weapon, discrimination and hate crimes. And crucially we discuss when sadness, grief or frustration manifests as anger or violence.

3. The Serious Chat - Body Image
For young girls, we look at puberty, including potential side effects such as acne, body odour and mood swings, as well as low self-esteem and self expression.

4. The Serious Chat - Resilience
Essential for everyone! We focus on resilience and how to build it.

If you've got questions about what exactly our PSHE plays are, we have the answers!

Mental health, relationships and consent are at the forefront of a lot of conversations with young people at the moment, and our interactive plays are the ideal way of opening up often challenging discussions.

We're flexible to your timetable and light on technical requirements, meaning we can perform in almost any space.

If you've still got some queries about the content of each of the plays, you can find in depth breakdowns here: https://www.upfronttheatrecompany.co.uk/ks3-5-play-programme

It can feel difficult to connect with students, who speak differently, and often think differently to their teachers. But we make sure we cast actors and write scripts that the students are more likely to relate to, and therefore more likely to engage with.

These students were interviewed after watching Before Anyone Else, our PSHE play about relationships, consent and navigating the LGBTQ+ experience. Their feedback is a perfect example about the power of representation and relatability.

If you're looking for a way of approaching these topics that actually gets the conversation started, for KS2 - KS5, then check out our range of workshops, assemblies and plays: www.upfronttheatrecompany.co.uk (🔗 in bio)

Louis Theroux's latest documentary, Inside The Manosphere, has brought attention to a growing issue our young people are currently facing; the spread of misogyny online and in real life.

But from learning about these worrying issues, we can start to make a plan of action. The Youth Endowment Fund has some brilliant research along with effective tools for combatting this toxic thinking. And that's where we come in!

Which workshop will you be booking to help tackle this concerning trend?

Our Democracy & Diversity Workshop explores the 3 D's - Democracy, Diversity & Discrimination.

We take a focused look at Diversity laws including Discrimination, Hate Crimes and Protected Characteristics, as well as understanding and combating discrimination and advocating diversity.

The students are invited to offer advice to a series of characters, including offering support to a young person who is being discriminated against, and two peers with differing opinions on gender roles and stereotypes.

And as with all our workshops, we conclude by outlining help and resources available.

So far our teacher feedback form has garnered an average of 4.8/5 stars!

As always, thank you to our actors for creating compelling drama and facilitating important conversations, and to all the schools across the country for having us. And thank you to the Goyal Foundation for allowing us to reach even more young people.
