𝙎𝙔𝙋𝙀𝙉 by continues this week and through October 24th.

We had the pleasure of commissioning a special text for the show by Rosanna McLaughlin, an excerpt of which is shown above. Rosanna has captured the essence of how Morgan has adapted the space with light, humidity, reflection, fragility, wetness and spirit. Read the full text and see documentation on our website.

In the studio with Yuli Serfaty in preparation for Frieze London ✨

This year Xxijra Hii presents 𝙒𝙝𝙤’𝙨 𝙖 𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙂𝙞𝙧𝙡, a solo booth of new work by 𝘠𝘶𝘭𝘪 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘺 that stages the gallery stand as a speculative training environment: part behavioural laboratory, part mythic threshold, part malfunctioning architecture of control. Across CGI film, sculpture, sound and wall-based reliefs, Serfaty asks what happens when systems designed to produce obedience begin to generate their own forms of agency.

𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘢𝘩 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯’𝘴 latest solo ‘𝙎𝙔𝙋𝙀𝙉’ Continues this week at our gallery in London.

In this presentation of new work Morgan continues to venture underground. Sypen interrogates ideas of pilgrimage, medieval apocalyptic narratives, beasts residing in the dark, liquid hauntology, feral landscapes, leaking intertwined bodies and muddy punctuations.

We are delighted to open SYPEN, Hannah Morgan’s third solo exhibition with Xxijra Hii.

Continuing her journeys underground, Morgan turns to anhydrite and water - materials that appear oppositional, yet become entangled through transformation. On contact with water, anhydrite begins to shift, crack and become gypsum; stone moving from monument towards something unstable, vulnerable and alive.

Across new sculpture, carved stone, glass and extracted mine water, SYPEN moves through pilgrimage, medieval apocalyptic narratives, feral landscapes, leaking bodies, mourning and material collapse. A stainless-steel structure becomes part reliquary, part museological display, housing forms that drip, erode and change over the course of the exhibition.

Stone, water, alchemy: a pilgrimage to the source.

𝙑𝙖𝙥𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙊𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙦𝙪𝙚, is still on show in Paris! This week we are featuring the works of 𝘕𝘰𝘢𝘩 𝘌𝘭 𝘏𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘮.

In Noah El Hachem’s paintings, portraiture becomes unstable terrain. Carefully rendered figures appear within undetermined spaces, surrounded by recurring leaves, eyes, sweeping curves and angular structures. Drawing on the organic geometries and ornamental defiance of early 20th c. architecture, El Hachem allows the portrait to move beyond likeness, opening instead onto an intuitive pictorial language where the real and imagined remain in negotiation.

Please join us for the launch of 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯, a new artist book by Ellie Wyatt, published by Foolscap Editions and hosted by Xxijra Hii.

Across a constellation of references from Galileo to Musk’s Mars colony, Caress Your Vision applies a feminist reading to astronomy - a technology and field dominated by narratives of male genius. Through a typology of found images from popular astronomy magazines and an essay in three parts, Wyatt expands upon the histories of women in astronomy, the entanglement of space science with magic, utopias and colonialism, and the contemporary landscape of a space exploration that is increasingly intertwined with a politicised Big Tech.

We are immensely proud to announce our participation in Frieze London this year with a solo presentation by Yuli Serfaty in the focus section.

“𝘞𝘩𝘰’𝘴 𝘢 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭?” is a speculative training simulation where glitch might serve as a form of generative refusal. Drawing on societal gendering of service technologies, a dog-woman-robot is subjected to a training algorithm which expects her to be obedient and predictable. Inspired by feminist technoscience and systems theory, mutation is used as an emergent engine of self-agency. By glitching the simulation she resists her training, “misfires” and embodies a new mode of being.
