📣 R&D Artist Callout! 📣
We are looking for talented, collaborative performers with experience in dance and/or movement-based storytelling to participate in a devising R&D for an exciting new performance project, working title “The Wick”. The workshop is due to take place at the recently opened Sadler’s Wells East over 4 days, culminating in an invited sharing of the work-in-progress at the end of the process.
The project centres around the stories of the young people in Stratford and Hackney Wick who were involved in the public school missions and clubs that were set up in the late Victorian era, and their parallels and differences with the local community today. It’s a fascinating period in the area’s history, and provides a unique perspective on urgent, contemporary issues such as class and gender identity.
After coming across a rich array of source material and research, this proposal has been conceived specifically as a community project in collaboration with East London’s artists and creators, and the new venue at Sadler’s Wells East.
Exact dates and times will be confirmed once the recruitment process is complete, but the workshop is likely to take place over 4 days in Nov/Dec ’25.
This workshop will be a paid opportunity supported by funding from the Frederick Hood Memorial Trust.
If you would like to be considered, please submit a CV, highlighting any dance, movement and devising experience, why you are interested in the project, and note availability throughout October-December to [email protected]. If you know anyone else who might be interested, please share this post with them!
Deadline for applications is Saturday 20th September.
