Christmas in August, apparently.
I’ve spent time exploring what happens when I bring my gestural marks into the figure. Just shape and movement. After endless hours and trial and errors, it turns out the loosest strokes say the most about a person.

Summer studio so far, from May till now.
It’s been well spent. Making progress. Making marks. Making.
So much happens that’s not resolved, not a final”piece” not a project. Not an explainable post. But sometimes it’s the in between stages, the working it all out parts, where something’s happens. Things take shape and idea arrives. You can’t skip at step. I’ve given myself some time to do just that. It’s working wonders.

There are so many drawings from a project year I started work on earlier this year. I was asked to capture the far north coast of Scotland. Drawing the landscapes of Wick and the distillery for Old Pulteney Whisky whisky.

Gradually these are now starting to appear across the Old Pulteney brand. I look forward to seeing more on how this comes to life.

Textile development for a SS2027 project. Mark making studies for surface pattern. Incorporating the same hand from my botanicals and the butterflies, only this time I had opportunity to explore working in repeat and at scale.
Some larger piece arrived back from the printer this week. More soon.

Earlier this year I started work on a project capturing the far north coast of Scotland. Drawing the landscapes and the distillery for Old Pulteney Whisky whisky.

The harbour, the cliffs, the story of the place, the product and the surrounding landscape of Wick.

There are many drawings to this project. Some of these are now starting to appear across the Old Pulteney brand. I look forward to sharing more on this.

To the Cities That Change Us. London.

Certain cities don’t just hold memories, they actually shape who you become. For me London is home. It’s also the city I left for years and returned to às a different version. So in some sense it’s changed me twice. But this is where I start and l always returned too.

This is the first in an ongoing series of cities. Each a different kind of change and story.

I’ve been thinking about transformation a lot lately. Not only as a concept but as something I can actually feel happening. In my life, in my work, in what I’m making, and what I’m drawn to.

This painting has been in my studio for some time and every time I look at it I think: that’s it. That’s what it feels like when something finally opens. Or perhaps it’s more accurate to say, when you finally lean in and accept changes. It takes confidence, an acceptance. Like these marks, you have to commit. I’m painting more and more like this these days, I’m making bolder marks and shapes.
