I know it’s not easy to keep it playful when there is so much to do when building a career in music and so many hats we were as musicpreneurs.
To-do-lists sometimes looks like this:
Networking
Writing songs
Practice instrument
Collaborate
Email venues and promoters
Create content
Plan music video
Meal prep
School run
Plan single release
Shoot video
Get clothes for music video
Day Job
Side hustle
Family get together
Other side hustle
Serial stalker of industry contacts
Pitching for playlist placements
Pitching for press feature
Health checks
Pitching for partnership and deals
Write up biography
Create an electronic press kit
That dinner or event you forgot you booked
And the many hats we wear:
Administrator
Booking agent
Personal photographer
Social media manager
Manager
Life coach
Songwriter
Singer
Accountant
Graphics designer
Producer
I’m sure the list is endless….. Even writing this post was exhausting lol
Goodness gracious me!
PLEASEEEE GO EASY!
If your life looks like the above, just take a second to take that all in, hold it .... and breathe out. Thank yourself for everything you do to honour your creative calling. It is not a joke and not easy .. this lifestyle itself can be tough on our mental health if you’re not conscious of it.
So try paying attention and being more conscious and present to all your hard work. Show gratitude for how much of a badass you are.
The list above can 100% be optimised, enjoyable with awareness, strategy and coaching. I know a mother with 5 children who runs a successful music company and many disabled musicians doing all of the above and making it work.
Take a breath, go slow, break things into chunks, make a priority list, ask for help and pace yourself.
