Tried my hand at subliminal messaging in this one. I’m certain you won’t notice but if you look carefully you might. Anyway, I hope to see you all at this years exhibition 👊😊

The famous “missing link” sadly isn’t a part of the story 🥲

Cool thing is though, that there is LOADS of evidence for evolution you can see for free at the … altho I do recommend donating even a little if you can 😊

My art mentor is and she has been helping me understand how to create the work I want for a few years now. If you don't have an art mentor and feel a little lost, here's your sign to find one.

Also, something I didn't say in the video is another reason I am so fixated on anatomy is that I have a vision of the work I want to make and although it won't be realism, I'll still want the work to be believable and I think having a strong understanding of anatomy will help that.

Obviously I won't include it on here but a quick search will bring up a LOT of videos of bonobos bumping their bits, so do what you will with that 🤷

The idea I mentioned called the cooperative eye hypothesis isn’t as settled as it sounds. It’s increasingly being challenged, and there’s a paper in the Wiley Online Library titled “Look past the cooperative eye hypothesis: reconsidering the evolution of human eye appearance” that pushes back on it.

Either way, this tiny detail has a big impact visually. In Planet of the Apes, for example, giving apes more human-like sclera makes their gaze readable to us.

And from an art perspective, it links to something called ubiquitous gaze—if you draw the eyes looking directly at you, they’ll seem to follow the viewer from anywhere.

It’s simple, but once you notice it, you see it everywhere.

I've measured mine a few times and I get between 75 and 77 so I've got some long arms 😊 What's yours?

Small caveat: this is meant to be measured from the bones themselves, so doing it over your arm and leg will give you a rough estimate rather than a precise number.
Lucy’s estimate uses the humerus and femur only (humerofemoral index)

Could you do it without breaking the charcoal?

Obsessing over Apes for the next few weeks. Here are some sketches before they get paint all over them 😊 🦍🦧
