It feels impossible to make a list of the best Nintendo Switch games without putting The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in the top spot. Released in 2017, Breath of the Wild is often hailed as one of the defining open-world games, helping to breathe (hehe) new life into the stagnant open-world genre.

I’ve always struggled to name my favourite game because like my favourite food or my favourite movie, the answer changes hour by hour depending on my mood, the weather, what I’ve been doing and so on. One hour I might say my favourite movie is Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, the next it could be Whiplash or Baby Driver or Jojo Rabbit. Or Scream. Or Shrek 2. Chances are, in the heat of the moment there are heaps of films I can’t even remember because I have the memory of a drunk goldfish.

It paints a very clear picture, though: transmedia strategies can and do work. The Last of Us has been another recent example with the show doing so well that it boosted the game sales massively. For good or bad, the future may include a lot of movie/game/tv show crossover, and Nintendo will be eager to be in the fight.
