Happy International Women’s Day 🌷🩷

Today feels like a good moment to wish you, ladies, something simple but important - stay true to yourself.

I wish you to have a quiet confidence in yourself, respect for your own feelings, and have the freedom and courage to choose what truly matters to you. To allie yourself to be imperfect, to change your mind and to grow.

I hope you remember to be a little gentler with yourself. Life doesn’t have to be lived only through effort and responsibility, it can also have joy, pleasure, curiosity, and love.

As for Christie’s, the highlights are just incredible. The Surrealist section is stunning: René Magritte, with my absolute favorite and very impressive Les Grâces naturelles (1961), as well as Paul Delvaux and Max Ernst. There are also beautiful works by Joan Miró, and paintings by Gerhard Richter.

There is also a huge collection of Impressionists like Berthe Morisot, Monet, Edgar Degas, Post-Impressionists like Paul Signac, and Symbolists like Maurice Denis. And many others. There are also several works by Wassily Kandinsky. It’s spectacular how powerful his works are. I love them.

You turn your head and there is a delicate Jetés de roses by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. A few steps later - a monumental canvas by Anselm Kiefer. And quietly hanging nearby, a small painting by Rembrandt, estimated at €20–30k. The contrast of scale, centuries, and prices is fascinating. You really have to look carefully, otherwise, you might walk past something precious.

Last but not least, a masterpiece by Henry Moore - King and Queen is on view. Strong, timeless, monumental.

Christie’s sale is on 5.03.
If you’re in London, go see it. If not, follow it online. Unless you’re the one actually bidding 😉

Sotheby’s and Christie’s auctions on 4.03 and 5.03 ❤️

Part 1

I visited last week both Christie’s and Sotheby’s auction houses before everything goes on sale on 4.03 and 5.03.

The collection of artworks is so impressive that it could easily rival a very good museum. It honestly feels like one of the most exceptional auctions in a long time.

So many people gathered in the rooms, watching and studying every single piece. The atmosphere is electric. It’s so interesting to observe.

Not only is the number of lots astonishing, but the artists themselves, almost every name is like a pearl. So many truly iconic figures.

It’s hard to define the highlights because there are simply too many precious works.

Sotheby’s highlights range from Impressionists to contemporary artists, focusing on masterpieces from important private collections: Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Lucio Fontana, Annie Morris, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Tracey Emin (who opened a huge exhibition last week at Tate Modern). There are also amazing works by Edgar Degas and Claude Monet that are going to be sold, seeing them in this context feels special.

One of my favorite artists, David Hockney, has an entire room dedicated to his works. I missed his exhibition at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, but I’m really looking forward to the one at Serpentine North Gallery in London. There are also beautiful paintings by René Magritte.

The atmosphere is electric! Sale on 4.03 and 5.03 online and live in London. Can’t wait to see the results!
