🤪😝 As a neurodivergent, self-published author, artist & also carer, there’ve been many fascinating intersectional hurdles (maybe I’ll write a book about them one day, or at least draw a comic!) I couldn’t believe the news and I hope this means that more people will get to see my book and benefit from reading it.

📚 The Weird & Wonderful Surviveries of Squid Horse is a comic memoir about defying multiple, hidden challenges and daring to tell one’s story in a hostile world refusing to believe you exist. Hashtag cosytrauma 🥺❤️‍🩹

📚 37 self-contained yet interwoven colourful short stories explore mental health, grief and the healing power of creativity from the perspective of a British born, neurodivergent, q***r, trans artist. Recommended for ages 14+.

It’s out in paperback in the UK at the coolest bookshops and as an e-book globally. I’m looking for a distributor and or reprint in other parts of the world including US and Canada.

Special thanks to albaf.rederick (Bi Poets) for helping me sort out the graphics! 🥰

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read the book so far. Remember, you can always ask for it in your library! I’m welcome to all the new people who have yet to discover the weird and wonderful world(s) of Squid Horse 🦑🐴🪐✨

❤️📚Book review: “Growing up at that time in Britain, and also being trans and trans-masculine, there were lots of bits that were relatable. I laughed out loud a few times reading the book and I don’t often laugh out loud! Things like the talking dog. the odd sense of humour and word play. When I was growing up. I really loved comics, particularly The Beano and The Dandy British comics in the late 80s. early 90s...I had the annuals. It seemed very British and reminded me of those types of comics.

I also appreciated the way there were instructions so there were different ways to get into the book. As a result, I could read it a little bit quicker. and it wasn’t too long. At the moment, I struggle with physical books. If it had been a very long book, going into a lot of detail about trauma. I couldn’t have read it. At the same time, there was depth to it. Bittersweet... pathos. A nice balance, I thought... going from humour to really heavy subject matter... but it didn’t wallow, which I thought was good. Thought-provoking.”

🗣️ A working-class, mixed-race, autistic trans man’s response to “The Weird & Wonderful Surviveries of Squid Horse”.

🥰 Grateful to be reminded that my comic book is appreciated and has human themes. Also, the unusual format makes it more accessible.

📚 Link in my bio to find out more about my book & where to buy “The Weird & Wonderful Surviveries of Squid Horse”. It’s out in paperback in the UK from awesome bookshops & available as an e-book globally.

Ps. Looking for distribution both within & outside the UK. Pls get if touch if you’re interested. ✨

🐦 PS. I was informed that it’s international pigeon day today… btw for some reason SquidMum’s dog doesn’t chase pigeons - only magpies. I wonder why. Maybe she’s in COO-hoots with the pigeons.

📚🩵 BEYOND BELONGING ✨ NEW ESEA BOOK 💚 .n by Mai-Anh Vu Peterson David Kam | Movement Artist & Facilitator ✨ Launch chaired by ESEA Community Centre (Formerly HCCS) - buy it, lend it, borrow it, ask your libraries for it, get it into schools 🧡

Thank you for answering my question which I had failed to ask at more than event. The universe had plans… it was worth the weight as I feel you answered it best. Your kind responses gave me much food for thought. 🤔😯

This morning I took one of besea.n’s many tips and went to touch some grass. 🌾 I harvested some agretti (final slide) which has a fun texture. Even though it just tastes like generic veg, the texture gives it a unique personality. 😋

Thanks to Keira May & Vicky BB for the array of noms. I chose bubble tea mochi which was something else! 🤤

(Sorry most of the attributions in my sketches are the things David said. Before this point I was letting it wash over me & some point realised I wanted to follow up with queries.)

I also love how the signatures in my book reminded me of the “autograph” book I took to school on the last day. I also really value how besea.n feel are both peers and teachers. This is a big moment that connects the past present and future. 🌱✨

🌳

🌳

🌳

In case you weren’t aware who they are, besea.n is a cis women-founded ESEA group who founded the seminal Esea Heritage month & loads of community restoring & building. As a trans person I really value their solidarity & work. Find out more on their instagram & website.

💜👩🏿‍🦱 Kyshia is in hospital with pr*****ed disc and compression in their spine. They are currently being looked after well (apart from the physio who made them move!) but told me they would welcome emotional support from friends. So please reach out if you have their number. If not, DM me & I’ll try to pass your messages on.

🥺 Finding out they’re in hospital brings mixed emotions for me as I’m aware K’s excruciatingly pain & symptoms had been ignored for years by medics who gaslighted them and they were also forced into inaccessible housing by their council. I had tried to help them write emails and realised for the first time in my life what a kafkaesque nightmare disabled people face and with added misogynoir.

🤗 ON A PLUS NOTE, they are happy that they were reunited with their belongings so a big thank you to all who gave to the moving fundraiser and/or came to my water zine workshop at Outland publishing fair & bought a copy of my new zine “Midnight book garden” (proceeds of which went to the fund).

❤️ Thanks for your support.

These images are from my book “the weird & wonderful surviveries of squid horse” where I depicted K but with shorter hair and a dream powerchair.
