It started with Shirley’s Pub

When Shirley and David met, he confessed to her his dream of trying Stand Up Comedy. But he found most Comedy Clubs to be intimidating or cliquey. So a few years later, Shirley bought @TheCavenishArmsStockwell and together, they turned this forgotten working man’s pub into the friendliest Open-Mic Comedy Club in London. Giving new Comedians a place to do their first ever gig in a friendly and supporting atmosphere, find a community, hone their craft and one day become successful if they so choose. Most Comedians you see on telly today have at some point in their career played ‘The Cav’. It’s been a community hub for over 10 years.

The small family run arts venue has always struggled to survive. It was never about making money for Shirl & Dave. It was always about sharing their unbridled passion for The Cav and its ever growing community.

When Covid struck; Pubs, especially small event pubs where hit incredibly hard. But an unexpected outpouring of support from the Cav community managed to raise enough funds to keep staff and bills paid until December. Still, The Cav is far from being back to normal.

The idea of live shows being viable with restricted audience capacity brought the idea to take The Comedy Virgins show Online!
