"The London 2012 Olympics had a major impact on the housing situation in Newham both positive and negative. Have things changed?

The Shadows of the Olympics is a play about community, characters, making your voice heard and cleaning up dirty soil.

Set in a pub near the Clays Lane Estate, characters from before, during and after the Olympics share their experiences of how their lives changed forever by London 2012."

We are very happy to announce that tickets for our upcoming performance are now available!

We will have three performances during the 17th, 18th & 19th June. This is a free performance that will be taking place at the Timber Lodge Cafe in the Olympic Park.

The three of us (Soeren, Anna and Charlie) enjoying a nice pint after a productive start to our creative process. We've been working hard finding the research for our upcoming project and have finally started the writing stage of our performance! We had the opportunity to visit the Bishopsgate Institute's Library and access the Clays Lane Archive. Clays Lane Estate was a housing co-operative that was demolished to make way for the Olympic village. We got to read through transcripts between the LDA (London Development Agency) and the residents who attempted to protest the demolition.

We were overwhelmed by the amount of fascinating and detailed research that was available, it deeply inspired us - we will definitely be back again!

We got to visit the Stratford Library Archive once again to dig deeper into Newham's history. We had the opportunity to look at photographs of the old industries that once existed in Stratford, such as the Beckton Gas Works which operated from 1871-1976. We also got to view photographs of pubs and the people that visited them in the 1970s and what Stratford looked like before the Olympics!
