Tied to the Other Side (2021) — Otobong Nkanga

A stunning textile that dives into the entangled relationships between bodies, land, and the Earth. Nkanga explores cycles of life, death, and rebirth through the depths of the ocean—where memory, loss, and transformation.

Part of the group show For All At Last Return featuring Monira Al Qadiri / Michele Allen / Bianca Bondi / Shezad Dawood / Taloi Havini and Michael Toisuta / Joan Jonas / Otobong Nkanga / Katja Novitskova / Kristina Õllek / Leticia Ramos / Emilija Škarnulytė / Rob Smith - runs til June

Carrie Mae Weems , bringing together recent and iconic works that trace the emotional and political weight of migration, belonging, and the afterlives of the Atlantic passage. Moving between photography, installation, and film, Weems positions herself as both witness and participant—quietly confronting what is remembered, and what is deliberately forgotten.

On view at Tiwani Contemporary, “Love Is A Practice” by Tizta Berhanu unfolds as a series of tender, dreamlike paintings, layered and translucent compositions, ghost like in parts, beautifully defined elsewhere.

Now on view at David Zwirner London: Flavin, Judd, McCracken, Ryman, Sandback — a focused presentation of five artists who redefined the language of abstraction.

Through light, line, and material, the exhibition traces how minimal gestures can transform space and perception—where colour becomes structure, and absence becomes presence.

Zwirner’s London space provides the perfect backdrop to these works. 💥

Another beaut show I just love catching their exhibitions . The Whispering Game” by Alice Herbst unfolds as a playful yet precise system of image-making—where repetition, variation, and staged narratives blur the line between control and chance. Developed over recent years, the paintings, fragments of a larger visual language, placed together with a sort of sense of collage creates a sense of both the familiar and unfamiliar.

At Pilar Corrias, Savile Row, artist Alyina Zaidi’s paintings drift between the real and the imagined — dense, layered terrains where figures, flora, and symbols emerge and recede, as if shaped by memory as much as a place reality.

The works feel less about depicting a world and more about the creation of a mythical one — atmospheric, and just slightly out of reach as though you are peering into them.

At White Cube Mason’s Yard, Sarah Morris current show Snow Leopards and Skyscrapers is 💥💥💥💥.

Morris’s signature grids and hard-edged colour fields map the invisible architectures of power — from pharmaceutical giants to financial networks — compressing vast, global infrastructures into hypnotic, visually stimulating and at times overwhelming coded surfaces — a reminder that these systems are anything but neutral. Alongside the paintings, her films Midtown (1998) and Chris Rock (2025) stretch this language into time, tracing the atmospheres and psychologies shaped by the same forces.

Despite knowing the history and collection of the well, I’m ashamed to say last week was my first visit to it. Tucked away in Canonbury, the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art is an absolute gem, that was busy with many people taking in their current temporary exhibition centred around design icon Alessandro Mendini.

The show brings together around 50 works — from furniture and paintings to rugs and objects — tracing Mendini’s playful, radical approach to design, where ornament, colour, and imagination take precedence over function. It was a fun, exciting show in such a gorgeous venue.

Elsewhere, a recent intervention by Patrizio di Massimo has woven contemporary painting into the permanent collection, setting up unexpected dialogues between modern Italian masters and present-day practice.

On view in London until 23 May — stunning work by Loie Hollowell’s. Her paintings a powerful continuation of her exploration of motherhood, consciousness, and connection. Pulsing orbs and radiant colour fields translate the intensity of childbirth into something both deeply physical and quietly transcendent — stretched into cosmic scale.

Hollowell’s paintings feel less like images and more like experiences — intimate, cyclical, and expansive all at once. I particularly loved her works on paper downstairs in the gallery too.
