There was something deeply meaningful about encountering multiple Bolivian voices at Photo London 2026.
We were proud to accompany Wara Vargas Lara () as part of the Positions section, where she presented AJAYU: The Art of Healing, a project rooted in ancestral healing traditions, ritual, and embodied knowledge in the Bolivian Andes.
It was equally special to encounter the work of fellow Bolivian photographer Marisol Méndez (), recipient of the Saltzman–Leibovitz Photography Prize 2026 for her project MADRE, a body of work exploring female identity, matriarchal lineage, spirituality, and Andean cultural symbolism through photography, constructed scenes, and family archives.
Moments like these remind us of the growing presence of Bolivian contemporary practices within international conversations, and of the importance of continuing to support artists working across disciplines, geographies, and generations.
