Join us for a curated round table celebrating the local book clubs quietly rewriting what “the library” can mean - from q***r reading groups to Black-led collectives building space for stories the classical canon has often overlooked.

Together, our guests will talk about why they started their groups, what community-led reading looks like in practice, and how these spaces are challenging - and expanding - ideas of who gets to shape a reading culture. Each guest will also share a curated reading list, offering fresh entry points into the worlds they’ve built.

This is a conversation for anyone who loves books, believes reading can be a communal act, and wants to discover groups doing something different with it.

Thursday 15th October | 18:00–20:00 pm
Doors open at 18.00 pm with drinks and light refreshments. Discussion begins at 18.30, followed by Q&A and time to browse the reading lists.

We are thrilled to congratulate and welcome Maya Ramnarine as the recipient of the 5th Goldsmiths & Lewisham Arthouse Short Residency and Exhibition Award!

Maya Ramnarine recently graduated from the BA (Hons) Fine Art program at Goldsmiths. She is a multidisciplinary artist working with sound, installation and broadcasting. Her practice involves relational sonic and visual dioramas that have materialised into sound sculptures. A generative dimension of radio culture forms the basis of Maya Ramnarine’s research, a subject entwined with her own ancestral history. For the Lewisham Arthouse Residency, she will re-house The Skylarking modular radio booth, at once sculpture, broadcasting device and social infrastructure, whilst operating as a functioning speaker system. Over the course of the residency, Maya will activate the space through her web radio network bringing together friends, family, and local collaborators. This will include performances, talks with guest hosts, as well as collaborative radio shows.

The Goldsmiths & Lewisham Arthouse Short Residency and Exhibition Award includes a stipend of £1000, a 4-week studio residency at LAH, mentorship and support from LAH, loan of AV equipment from Goldsmiths and a one-week solo exhibition at LAH.
