Over shadowing the sand. A footprint of memory, slowly expanding, growing larger with time.

This installation reflects on how memories and experiences shape our sense of home within our identity. The smaller sculptures represent more recent moments , where memory is still sharp, held in vessels that are intimate and clear

I Took the Rock With Me series of oil paintings draws from memories of my childhood growing up in Malta. Each painting represents a different moment, yet together they merge into a continuous narrative of the past.

This is the first time I am presenting a series of paintings, and they hold a particularly deep meaning for me. Memory can be fragile , sometimes it is difficult to rewind and clearly visualise moments that once felt so vivid. Through these paintings, I attempt to pause those fleeting memories.

The works are like rewinding an old videotape, capturing the still frames in between movement of the quiet, suspended moments that often carry the most emotion.

Lost in the Fields

This painting comes from a childhood memory of playing in the fields and picking daffodils. We would gather the flowers and bring them behind my grandmother’s house, placing them in front of the statue of the Virgin Mary.

It use to be a simple moment from childhood, being outside, wandering through the fields, picking flowers and leaving them as small offerings. At the time I did not fully understand why, but it always felt like it meant something.

Carried Shelter is an installation that explores the idea of shelter as something we carry with us rather than a fixed place. It reflects on how memories, identity, and experiences shape our sense of home as we move through different environments. The work creates a temporary space that feels both protective and fragile, inviting viewers to reflect on the personal and emotional meanings of shelter.

Carried Rock
2026
11 × 30 cm

Carried Rock began with a quiet act of taking something with me. A rock. Small enough to seem meaningless, yet impossible to ignore once it was in my hand.

These two sculptures hold that movement. They bend and shift as if still in transit, suspended between where they came from and where they are now. They are no longer still rocks. They carry the tension of departure, the weight of memory, and the quiet motion of being uprooted.

This work sits with the idea of carrying. How a fragment of a place can embed itself within you, travelling silently, altering your weight and balance over time.

These two paintings reflect the cycle of life, where beginning and ending sit quietly beside each other. On the left, my grandparents rest at the edge of the shore, looking out at the sea with a calm that comes from a life fully lived. On the right, my twin brother plays with the dog in his youth, full of movement and lightness.Together, they hold a gentle conversation between stillness and motion, memory and becoming.
