MEET THE CAST: 2/5

Up next is our lean, mean, singing machine, Lydia Clay-White who plays Emili.

Lydia is a dab-hand at a Shirley Bassey impression and rocks a red leather jacket (pictured here).
Her jazz musician of choice is Ella Fitzgerald, though Bleeding Gums Murphy is a strong second (scroll for pic).
Her favourite numbers are the opener, as well as “Rock on the Left Wing” — the opening number, even though I barely do anything in it, is a favourite. It just sets up who the Jazz Section are so perfectly and is so. much. fun. Also have to say Rock on the Left Wing, we all just go a bit fu***ng crazy.”

Meet Arthur, who plays Karel in “The Jazz Section”.

Three things you wouldn’t know by looking at this picture of him: he plays the trombone, insists on doing yoga before we start every rehearsal, and his favourite jazz musician is JJ Johnson.

Arthur’s favourite number from the show is the Argument Song, with Sounds Out of the Dark a close second: “I enjoy the way the writing naturally drives interaction between the actors on stage.”

“Tired of waiting we’re creating a sound so loud that the walls are shaking”

So 2 years ago we had a little idea for a show. After endless zoom calls, two writing weeks, 2 years of writing and researching, hours and hours of rehearsals, cancelled shows, MORE rehearsals, Positive covid cases, more cancelled shows, more rehearsals.... we present to you ‘The Jazz Section’!

HEAR US SING.

Thank you to this amazing bunch of talented people who liked our little idea and decided to join us on this crazy rollercoaster ride. And guess what? We’re only just getting started! If you missed us at the Water Rats then you can catch us at on the 21st, 22nd of September.

We also have some exciting news coming your way shortly - “SO STAY ALERT”.

Thank you to the brave, beautiful audiences who came to watch us. We love you.
