🌕 Voyage to the Moon

Gregory Tingay’s major Voyage to the Moon is a striking coral slip and sgraffito moonjar, combining the quiet presence of the traditional Korean form with Gregory’s highly individual decorative language.

The surface is alive with intricate markings, inviting the eye to travel across the vessel and discover its story. A powerful and contemplative work, Voyage to the Moon was created following Gregory’s artist residency at Hauser & Wirth Somerset last summer.

Behind the scenes at Studio Pottery London.
Our lovely technician, Dhrupat Dhrupat Subramanian , carefully unloads another kiln of members’ work. One by one, colourful treasures emerge from the kiln like a phoenix rising from the ashes, each piece transformed by fire into something entirely unique. 🐦‍🔥

This is one of the most magical moments in ceramics: when weeks of making, glazing and anticipation are finally revealed.

We can’t believe the craftsmanship coming out of our tile decoration classes these days. The standard is off the hook.

Thank you to Teacher Mattie and all her pupils for storytelling so epically through their tiles.

Using cobalt oxide over a white tin glaze, a technique mastered by the potters of 18th-century Delft, each tile becomes a story in blue and white.

This summer, we’ve welcomed wonderful teams to Studio Pottery London to discover the ancient art of ceramics and its many processes.

Last week, we collaborated with naturespath to host their leading clients and creatives, decorating cereal bowls to celebrate the launch of their new collection.
