The gameplay video didn’t meet the high expectations, though, and was buried under a barrage of thumbs down. It was a pretty clear message: people weren’t vibing with the looter-shooter style or the various hints toward a potential live-service game. New characters and missions, a battlepass containing cosmetic items and an online requirement even for singleplayer led to a lot of people worrying that this is going to be another Avengers disaster, or something akin to the bland Gotham Knights.

The Vita didn’t just give up, though: a diehard fanbase had formed and the little handheld became a home for indie titles, Japanese roleplaying games and more. Production of the Vita would finally be ended in 2019, and the storefront was officially closed in 2021.

The good news is that owners of the Xbox One and the PS4 don’t have much longer to wait until they can play Marvel’s Midnight Suns for themselves. The last-gen version will launch on Thursday, 11th May, coinciding with the release of Midnight Suns’s final piece of DLC which will add Storm to the roster, joining the other three DLC characters of Deadpool, Venom and Morbius.
