Freshly completed ‘Limnoberis’ in the studio. Oil on glass and entomologists’ pins inside field collecting box from London’s . I’ve been beavering away on this piece for a few weeks now. Whilst my clumsy hands have found it particularly challenging, I’ve enjoyed the process greatly. The mirroring of the pinned chair silhouette against the painted chair in the mirror creates quite an unease. The chair is no longer passive, it forces a physical reaction. Are the pins the chair’s shadow or is the painted chair the shadow of the pins? The whole piece keeps inverting and provoking thoughts. Measuring 27x25x22cm. Please DM for further details.

Chairboretum - new series of ink on paper drawings. The chairs go through an anthropomorphism process as they grow and spill across their surface to embody moods and emotions. The perspective of these chairs suggests the viewer is below and looking up at them towering above with their fluid legs and spreading arms melting across the paper’s surface. They are somehow returning to their once growing tree forms as they come alive in this Chairboretum series. A carefully selected group of them are heading off to the framers next week. Please DM for further details or for an appointment to view.

Studio visit today from a client who brought an earlier acquisition of mine to find her next piece. Always a pleasure to see an old friend and to re-unite it with current work to find new relationships and energies. Studio is looking tidy and welcoming in this glorious spring sunshine, please do contact me if you would also like to come and visit. There’s plenty to look through right now with some exciting new pieces on the go….

Mashrabiya from The Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi. What a sight to see - total immersion within the Mashrabiya. Mashrabiya is an architectural screen in the form of a geometric lattice used to encase and conceal. The Mashrabiya seen here in the mosque have the magical element of being able to allow light (and shadow) through the holes whilst at the same time allowing concealment and privacy from the outside. The light dances through the walls of this wondrous place. Very inspiring as a whole generally - is a meeting of a mosque, church and synagogue across a shared Garden of Eden just steps from each other. Each of the three buildings occupies the same size, and designed by the same architect, Sir David Adjaye, but is unique inside. They stand together as a meeting point of faiths and a shared understanding and respect for each other. A lot could be learned from this in our turbulent world right now. This was a much anticipated visit and one which will most definitely further inspire my Mashrabiya series.

‘Perryhybris’ is the latest from my Mashrabiya Series. Chair configurations painted in oil on glass on an entomologist’s drawer from London’s Natural History Museum. Very excited to present this new piece out in the Middle East this week. It forms the fourth in my Mashrabiya Series influenced by Islamic geometric patterns. The interplay of shadows and duplication is becoming more complex and following some of the rules in my geometric references is deeply satisfying.
