We’ve been a little quiet on here recently, but this is a post that for many reasons, feels important right now.
Back in 2012, George was involved in a boat accident that killed his best friend Charlie and severely injured his other best friend Alex. In what was a horrific crisis for an adult and 14 year old boy to deal with, it was the RNLI who came and, well, saved the day.
It’s why we started Soulstice. An event to raise money for a charity that is both close to our hearts and provides incredible services everyday to those in need. And since 2018, donating money to them has been a primary value of Soulstice.
What makes them so incredible is that they value saving lives above all else, regardless of who you are. So the idea that people think it’s acceptable to call them “traitors” or a “taxi service”, in our opinion, is beyond despicable. There aren’t even words we can use to describe the idea it might be acceptable to personally target the families of people who volunteer their time to save lives.
It goes without saying we stand with the RNLI. And that we think those who criticise them are the worst of the worst. But at Soulstice, our purpose is to create community around those who understand the value organisations like the RNLI bring to our societies. We’ve had the pleasure of the RNLI coming down to our events in the past - including in our early years across 2018-2022 - to talk about the work they do, and how they go about saving lives at sea. Everyone who attended those events walked way with more knowledge on how incredible they are at what they do.
So, just a reminder, that the RNLI represent the best of who we are. If you agree with that, then welcome to the Soulstice community. We’re probably the people for you and almost definitely run events that you’ll like.
PS - Alex made a full recovery and last year ran the London marathon in Charlie’s memory.
