AFI26: ‘A Kind of Power’ with guest curators Nina Wong and Wade Osei Pryor from MFA Curating, Goldsmiths.

Throughout the day, the exhibition will be open, bringing together seven moving-image works by international artists in the AFI26 programme, organised around three thematic threads: ‘Looking’, ‘Watching’ and ‘Witnessing’.

🎟 Artist-led Annotated Screening with Alessandra Ferrini, 3-6pm
Joined by curator Wade Osei Pryor, Alessandra Ferrini (.ferrini) will present an annotated screening of Sight Unseen. Together, they will explore the research underpinning the work, its historical context and evolving public reception, as well as Ferrini’s stylistic choices.

Sight Unseen by Alessandra Ferrini was selected for AFI’26 by Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo.

Artists Film International 2026 is curated by Forma in collaboration with arts organisations, who present the programme around the world.

‘A Kind of Power’ brings together artists whose films renegotiate the fraught legacies of representation and examine the conditions under which people, histories and territories are made visible.

The London presentation is co-curated by Nina Wong and Wade Osei Pryor as part of Forma’s fourth year of collaboration with the MFA Curating course at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Join us as we celebrate James Jordan Johnson’s upcoming solo presentation ‘Bruno’ at FormaHQ which will open on 17 September and run across the weekend.

Marking the culmination of Johnson’s year-long residency at FormaHQ, supported by New Contemporaries, the three-day presentation brings together new works and material explorations developed over the last 12 months. These include sculptural works that incorporate found objects and organic matter gathered on journeys through South London, which will be displayed alongside new photography and moving-image works.

Across ‘Bruno’, journeys, objects and images become ways of thinking through memorialisation and memory. Johnson continues his exploration of the metaphysics of witnessing, considering how slowness and opacity might produce alternative readings within Blackness and the everyday.

The title refers to the British boxer Frank Bruno, the colour brown and dusk as a visual register: a threshold at which forms become less fixed and other ways of seeing might emerge.

Artists in residence, Babeworld, will be providing special edition popcorn inspired by their recent show ‘Lost Grace Discovered’ now showing at Forma Bermondsey Square.

Babeworld’s work uses popular-culture inspired film and installation to interrogate themes of political and societal identity, disability, access, and neurodivergence. By using a tongue-in-cheek approach to serious themes, Babeworld are able to playfully explore these themes whilst capturing the lived-experiences within the collective. Underpinning their practice is an ongoing commitment to researching what it means to make, participate in and spectate art as marginalised individuals, often presenting a life of contrast - one in which oscillating mental health, mania and delusion can make things feel hopeless and paralysing, or thrilling and obsessive.

To celebrate their four month residency at FormaHQ, we are co-curating a special day-long event with Montez Press in our rooftop garden.

London-based music and movement artist, NWAKKE will give a special live performance in the garden.

Through multi-genre songwriting and production, soundscape creation, and improvisation, she seeks to craft deep listening experiences that speak to emotional honesty, bodily sensation and world building.

Come make small talk with Krystle Patel, one of the many great artists joining us for the Forma x Montez Press Summer Party on Saturday 18 July from 1-8pm. RSVP link in bio.

Krystle Patel is an artist, before that she was a dentist. Some people think that Dentistry is an art form, they obviously don’t understand art. She writes, makes music and performs. Some parts of the art world appreciate her work, others find it confusing. She enjoys putting things over her head or the heads of others. She thinks it’s important to touch on literature, theory and popular culture. Krystle has shared her work in institutions and in living rooms. Krystle likes to talk to people. Krystle loves art, and however demoralising it can be, would rather be an artist than a dentist any day.

Krystle is an Associate Artist at Forma.
