We will be performing an extract of How to Make Rice with tomorrow at Walthamstow Trades Hall, 7pm.

Gunarjun Chawla performed a reading of an extract from Mahmoud Darwish’s poem Mural.

Darwish was not a Sufi, however, many of his poems depict Sufi thought and feature Sufi figures. Especially in Mural we see Darwish take an inward turn with his poems, denoting a kind of mystic austerity.

Gunarjun featured in the work-in-progress version of our play How to Make Rice and is now acting in ‘The Final Trumpet’ directed by . Follow both to see the journey of the play and the final performance at Season of Bangla Drama in November.

A special thank you to Sahaje Swadhin Initiative for allowing to bring a glimpse of the Bengali Baul tradition to London at Rich Mix. We screened a performance by baul singers Rina Das Baul and Sandhyarani Baul.

Thank you to Souradeep’s Roy for connecting Sufi Soup with Sahaje Swadhin and translating their song and also a song by Sufi Shah Mohammad Mansour Ali.

In the Bengali tradition often poems are sung and songs are poetic. So many famous songs were originally written as poems.

Thank you to all the artists involved in ‘Lovers of the Qalandar’. You all did a fabulaous job!!

The aim for this event was to bring different Sufi art tradition together and this is just the start we hope to continue the conversation!
