Previously known as Hector and Noble, the Hawke is now a stalwart for food lovers in the area. The landlord, Greg, has a taste for art and you can tell “beautiful” is part of the Hawke’s DNA. From carefully curated decorations throughout the pub (watch out for that stunning longhorn skull) to exquisitely coloured meals, your eyes will be spoiled at the Hawke. With this obsession for art, it’s no wonder the pub collaborated with artist McBess and renowned fashion brand The Dudes Factory to create their own branded garments and cocktail cans.
After a stroll in Victoria Park, stop by for a quiet break in this peaceful haven.
Whether you come to indulge your taste buds with delicious food worthy of a Michelin-starred restaurant or just for a quick drink, you’ll feel at peace as soon as you step in. Skehan's, one of the 80+ independent pubs that are part of the London Pub Collection. 👀

The building itself is over 200 years old. Bill Skehan arrived in the early 2000s, named the pub after himself, and started promoting live music in the bar, his wife Chai from Thailand started Chais Garden Thai restaurant next door which served Thai food in the pub. The pub has thrived since then. Bill's nephew Bryan and his wife Kate took over running the business in 2016 and continued Bill and Chai’s philosophy of great food and music. Skehans is now a renowned spot for music in South London. Chai can still be found in the kitchen cooking Thai food, Bill and his wife spend time in the bar having a drink. It is one of the last truly old-school independent pubs in the area.
Skehans is famous for their lovely Guinness (Ireland, of course!). On the food side, you might want to try the Weeping Tiger (a sizzling steak served over peppers and onions with a spicy Thai sauce), the Tamarind Duck is to die for and the Pad Thais are legendary as well!

A Victorian Shoreditch institution degenerated into a strip bar and is now reborn as an award-winning craft beer pub. Expect lively, indie vibes, with exposed brick and junkyard decor, craft beers, and a large garden and terrace. Visiting this pub now, you might not believe it was once a sleazy pole-dancing joint. However, The Crown & Shuttle has very much reverted to its original role as a public house. The distressed brick interior walls and heated garden is perfectly pitched to attract the Shoreditch media types and City bankers alike. Enjoy a London ale or an Italian Pinot Grigio to wash down a Lebanese salad or classic bar snack in this pub full of contradictions.
Enjoy craft beers in a fun pub that lacks the pretentiousness that Shoreditch pubs can be accused of.

The Roebuck, one of the 80+ independent pubs that are part of the CityStack London Pub Collection. 👀

First licensed in 1704 as the Bull’s Head, this establishment has welcomed theatregoers, local residents, and Covent Garden workers for centuries. Over the years, the pub bore the name Freemasons Arms and passed through various owners, including chains such as Sam Smith, Greene King, and Shepherd Neame, before finally returning to independent hands in 2025, as it should!
To honour the pub’s original identity and celebrate its independent spirit, the new owners chose to call it ‘the Bull and Egret’, making it the only pub in the country to bear this name, a rare exception among the many reused pub titles.
Expect a boozer that combines elegance with cosiness, featuring a majestic dark wooden bar, cosy sofas filled with cushions, and ochre-toned panels. The whole effect sets a warm atmosphere where time simply slips away. At the Bull and Egret, taste buds are treated to classic hearty pub dishes such as hot pies, fish and chips, and burgers, accompanied by a carefully selected range of cask ales.

The Garden Shed, originally opened in 1838 as the Horse and Groom, is one of the oldest pubs in Wimbledon. At a time when much of the surrounding land was still open farmland, it served as an early social hub, long before nearby roads like North Road and South Road were established. As the area developed, it remained a constant while other pubs and beer houses gradually appeared. Many have since closed, leaving it as the oldest original watering hole still standing in the area.
Now known as the Garden Shed (you won’t struggle to see why the name fits so perfectly), the pub features a bright green tiled central bar and friendly staff ready to greet any patron. The space has been thoughtfully designed as a cosy haven for plant lovers, filled with greenery and botanical illustrations throughout.

The Gladstone Arms , one of the 80+ independent pubs that are part of the CityStack London Pub Collection. 👀

Known locally as ‘The Glad’, this independent family-run pub is affectionately named after four-time former prime minister William Gladstone. Located a stone's throw away from Borough tube station, expect Anglo-Indian dishes including favourites such as curry pies and Indian Sunday roasts. Accompanying the spice is a strong selection of British craft beer, wine and cocktails. An array of entertainment can also be found. Gigs, comedy, quizzes and open mic nights all feature weekly.
Steeped in over 200 years of history, The Glad was mentioned by Charles Dickens in the Pickwick Papers as somewhere that “sheds a gentle melancholy upon the soul”. However, you’d be forgiven for mistaking melancholy for celebration now, as The Glad is now very much somewhere to have fun!

Painted bright orange, The Bow Bells is hard to miss. Family-owned, you’ll be visiting a proper East End boozer. Unique to the pub, there is said to be a ghost that has lived here since 1974. Known as the ‘phantom flusher’, expect this cheeky ghost to flush the toilet just when you’re at your most vulnerable. The Bow Bells has a wealth of history having served the East End since 1860, residing opposite the railway station. The pub also has a connection with football, being one of the closest drinking holes to West Ham’s new ground, as well as being a destination to watch sport, with Sky Sports and BT Sports events shown.
