The Hollydale, one of the 80+ independent pubs that are part of the CityStack London Pub Independent Collection. 👀

Opened as a pub in 1878, the Hollydale has long been part of the neighbourhood and has witnessed Peckham’s evolution over time. Like many pubs, the building was closed in 2019, and part of it was transformed into apartments. It remained shuttered for a while but when Richard, a passionate hospitality professional, visited the then boarded-up establishment for the first time in 2021, he saw the potential and began an impressive refurbishment. After years of hard work, planning, and investment, the place finally reopened in 2024 and you can tell the blood, sweat, and tears poured into this treasure have been worth it: today, the Hollydale welcomes you into a bright, modern, minimalist space, complete with a beautiful wooden bar. At the Hollydale, it’s all about community and local pride. Out in the beer garden, a colourful mural for El Rayo — a tequila with Peckham roots — sets the scene. Inside, you’ll spot painted birds by local artist Fran Giffard, adding charm to every corner.

The White Horse , one of the 80+ independent pubs that are part of the CityStack London Pub Independent Collection. 👀

With its Tudor-style exterior, striped with black timber, it is hard to miss the longevity of this much-loved Peckham gathering hub, which was first registered in the 1780s. Step inside and you will be charmed by the traditional features, from wooden panelling and stained-glass windows to plush leather seats, perfectly paired with contemporary memorabilia, such as the disco ball proudly hanging at the back of the establishment, which gives you a hint at a major draw for locals and newcomers alike: the popular DJ sets.
You can tell a pub is a proper community centre when 30 to 40 regulars have been gathering there every Friday afternoon for over 40 years, and the White Horse is no exception. Throw in the pool table, and you have the full recipe for a proper pub, just the way we love them!

The Sekforde, one of the 80+ independent pubs that are part of the CityStack London Pub Independent Collection. 👀

Originally built in 1829, this local treasure located in the heart of Clerkenwell continues to amaze visitors with its warm atmosphere created by wooden panels and delightful food. This pub has stood the test of time, even surviving through WWII. In fact, its owner likes to tell patrons that it was the only pub in the area to remain open during the Blitz! After passing through the hands of various operators, a passionate barrister took over in 2015 and invested in an extensive restoration to return the venue to its former traditional glory. The result is simply stunning. Sustainability is central to the Sekforde, which has won awards for its ground-source heat pump using an ancient river for heating and cooling. Not only does the pub reduce its carbon footprint, but it also donates profits to the Sekforde House Trust, funding six scholarships annually for London students aiming to make a positive impact – so they can say it all started with a few pints at the Sekforde!

Dog & Bell SE8 , one of the 80+ independent pubs that are part of the CityStack London Pub Independent Collection. 👀

Despite its out of the way location, everyone knows the homely Dog and Bell in Deptford. By veering off the beaten track, you’ll be rewarded with a wonderful red fronted treasure, where every patron feels welcome. Casting an eye over the delightful mural on the side of the pub, there is no doubt about the favourite beverage of the place, run by the gregarious Irish owner Seamus: Guinness!
Not a fan of a pint of plain? No worries! You can also imbibe a delightful beer from the wide range of mouth-watering ales the pub has to offer! Always something to enjoy along with ‘the craic’ here, you can play at one of the few remaining old billiards tables in London, chat with the cheerful regulars, or simply pet Monty, the famous resident dog which even stars on the pub sign.

Previously known as Hector and Noble, the Hawke is now a stalwart for food lovers in the area. The landlord, Greg, has a taste for art and you can tell “beautiful” is part of the Hawke’s DNA. From carefully curated decorations throughout the pub (watch out for that stunning longhorn skull) to exquisitely coloured meals, your eyes will be spoiled at the Hawke. With this obsession for art, it’s no wonder the pub collaborated with artist McBess and renowned fashion brand The Dudes Factory to create their own branded garments and cocktail cans.
After a stroll in Victoria Park, stop by for a quiet break in this peaceful haven.
Whether you come to indulge your taste buds with delicious food worthy of a Michelin-starred restaurant or just for a quick drink, you’ll feel at peace as soon as you step in. Enjoy the crackling fireplace in a cosy space in winter, or relax in the rear (almost secret!) beer garden when the sun comes out.

Skehan's, one of the 80+ independent pubs that are part of the London Pub Collection. 👀

The building itself is over 200 years old. Bill Skehan arrived in the early 2000s, named the pub after himself, and started promoting live music in the bar, his wife Chai from Thailand started Chais Garden Thai restaurant next door which served Thai food in the pub. The pub has thrived since then. Bill's nephew Bryan and his wife Kate took over running the business in 2016 and continued Bill and Chai’s philosophy of great food and music. Skehans is now a renowned spot for music in South London. Chai can still be found in the kitchen cooking Thai food, Bill and his wife spend time in the bar having a drink. It is one of the last truly old-school independent pubs in the area.
Skehans is famous for their lovely Guinness (Ireland, of course!). On the food side, you might want to try the Weeping Tiger (a sizzling steak served over peppers and onions with a spicy Thai sauce), the Tamarind Duck is to die for and the Pad Thais are legendary as well!
