If one word can’t describe it, then why would one medium be able to describe it? 🤷‍♀️🎨

Mixed media allows me to add those layers to the story that I want to tell with my art.

But let’s face it… it also allows me to have fun, be creative and make pieces that can sometimes be the artistic equivalent of Marmite and that’s why I love it! 😅

I LOVE this time of year! 😁

It’s literally nature’s planning getting underway for next spring and there’s something so funky about that if we just learn to see it. 👀

Meet my electroformed copper angelite pendant. 📿

Pairing nature’s conductor, copper, with angelite was no accident. What might just seem like a soft blue stone to some actually holds thousands of years of spiritual meaning for others.

The pairing is designed to remind the wearer of the pendant that nature’s energy is all around, tethering us to the Earth. 🌬️

And the toadstool? To me, fungi is a subtle reminder of the goings-on of nature that are always ticking over away from the human eye. 🍄

This piece is ticking all the boxes when it comes to bridging the earthly and ethereal (even if I do say so myself! 😅)

A photo doesn’t just paint a thousand words. It tells a thousand different stories and as an artist, I get to choose which one to tell. 🥰📸

Take this picture.

I could tell the story of the peeling bark. 🪾
I could tell the story of the decaying leaves. 🍂
I could tell the story of the light and shade. 🌒

Whichever story I decide to tell in my art, a photograph capturing that moment in time is what makes it possible.

Happy World Photo Day!

My creative process is just as experimental, unpredictable and sometimes downright infuriating as anyone else’s. 🤷‍♀️🤣

But I do it for the love of creating, that true sense of accomplishment I get when that idea that had lived in my head for so long is FINALLY staring back at me from my workbench.

And that’s not reserved for artists. Anyone who starts a creative process can experience it too. No previous experience required! 🥰

Honestly, the intensity of August light makes it seem like the sun hasn’t even been trying for the previous seven months! ☀️

Mosses, roots, and fungi that have been overlooked all year finally get their time in the spotlight. It’s a reminder that even in the height of summer, decay and regeneration are still going on right under our noses.

Yep, it seems weird and maybe even a little morbid (me? Weird? Never! 😉) but to me it’s a reminder that we’re all tethered to nature’s cycle.

If we think we’ve tamed nature or got it all figured out, it’s an illusion. There’s always something going on under the surface that nature will keep to itself until it’s good and ready to show us. 🍂

Sorry to those of you who were excited by the graphic – I’ve not created an invisible weight for you to lift at the gym! 🏋️🤣

But what I have created are several pieces where the appearance of weight is vital to the overall impact of it.

Take an otter as the example (not literally! 🦦)

The waterlogged fur, the long, thick tail and the supple body… these are all important features of an otter. And weight is an important factor in their appearance.

Realistically, I can’t create a piece weighing 45kg like a live otter! That’s where mark making, sculpting and gradients come in. 🎨

Creating the illusion of weight keeps the piece balanced and true-to-life without the risk of putting your back out every time you pick it up. 😅

Calling all witchy folk and those who are curious..... expand your mind past the everyday humdrum and come explore this wonderous event!
Bean will be there.... with a mélange of objet d'art to peruse and poke!
Preloved, sustainability and oddities are the ethos of Beanies soul.
Up for the adventure???
