The last voyage of the Caterina

On the morning of January 14th, 1887, the Italian barque Caterina unfurled her sails in Cardiff's dark harbour. She was a proud three-masted lady of the sea, her hull heavy with black gold (welsh coal)
bound for warmer shores.
Her crew, seasoned and solemn, knew the Channels moods well, but that day the sky wore a strange dark expression.
As she slipped past the breakwaters, the wind began to whisper warnings. By afternoon, it howled like a beast.
A storm rose from the deep, clawing at rigging, and driving the Caterina towards the jagged coast of south Wales.

Locals watched from the cliffs as the sea swallowed her whole.
Thunder of waves howling winds and splintering of oak.
By nightfall, the Caterina was no more-her precious cargo and crew lost to Neptune's embrace.
The Caterina is now just a ghost ship still sailing towards a destiny she never reached.
