We couldn’t show a Wes Anderson movie without delving into exactly what makes his films so distinctive. Anderson is known as a filmmaker that uses a concoction of clever techniques that makes his viewers feel like they are looking into a live action story board.

Anderson’s notoriously whimsical movies are distinctly and meticulously symmetrical; and are also defined by unique vibrant colour palettes. His actors always use Anderson’s ingenious melancholic storytelling to deliver deadpan acting that breaks the fourth wall, often talking directly to the audience.

All of this and more has made Wes Anderson stand out as one of the most stylised directors out there, who has gone on to inspire many other successful filmmakers.

Did you know… that the timing and location of the production of ‘Isle of Dogs’ was very clever. It was produced in East London, amazingly just 3 miles away from a peninsula actually called ‘The Isle of Dogs’. The film also wrapped its post-production in time for a 2018 release, meaning that on the Chinese Calendar, it came out in the year of the dog.

Did you know… the main 5 dogs that help Atari along on his journey through Trash Island are all named after types of Leaders; their names are Chief, Rex, King, Duke, and Boss. Anderson made this decision to subtly highlight that in the group, they are all leaders.

Did you know… Director Wes Anderson hosted a competition that would allow one lucky fan to travel to London, visit the set, and also to lend their voice as a character in the film and take home an original character puppet. To enter the competition, all you had to do was donate at least $10 to the Film Foundation, a nonprofit organisation set up by Martin Scorsese, that strives to support the “preservation and restoration of cinema, ensuring its survival for future generations”. It was never publicly announced who won this competition, but reports say that over $250,000 was raised.

You can get your tickets to see ‘Isle Of Dogs’ on Friday 26th June via our website www.newdotcinema.org or by popping into Laura's Tearoom Llangollen from 3rd june for cash payments.

Sir David Attenborough is the patron and supporter of a long list of charities that work to aid conservation and wild life restoration, including Fauna and Flora and Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust.

Before we show ‘Ocean With David Attenborough’ this Friday, we wanted to highlight a few of these amazing charities.

Since it was founded in 1989, Sir David has been the patron of the World Land Trust, who work to “protect and restore some of the planets most threatened habitats”. On his 100th birthday, the charity called him “much more than just our patron”.

Attenborough is also the president of Butterfly Conservation; a British charity that “works toward a world where butterflies and moths thrive and can be enjoyed by everyone, forever”. On their website, they are currently asking people to vote on their favourite British butterfly.
