Newid Studios is a community recording studios, rehearsal rooms, “Rockschool” teaching and examination centre, CD and DVD duplication provider with graphic design. Recording: £25 per hour
Self Recording: £10/hour (Bring your own computer in and we will link you into the whole system. You get to use all the studio mic's and equipment)
Rehearsal: £7/hour
Drum Hire: 5/session

Established in 1998 with the help of EU funding for community projects in areas where mining and steel work has come to an end- this facility has been a valuable resource for Llanelli and South Wales. There is no need to look any further. This community facility was developed 1998 to service the needs of the growing amount of young bands in Wales. The studio is used by people from all over Wales and by many from England also. The cost is kept to a minimum to put the facilities within reach of the average pocket. We also have a radical approach to empowering artists by including an appropriate amount of training so that artists leave the studio equipped with the full knowledge of how go into a recording studio anywhere with confidence. We also specialize in live recording both on site and in the studio, music has become so sterile and bland, we help artists capture the 'spirit' of a live performance.

Stories From the Workbench #002

The guitar that never made it to the workbench.

I had an enquiry from Pembroke about two guitars that needed testing.

The customer sent over a few photos and explained that one of them had never worked properly since they’d bought it second-hand.

Sometimes, photos tell you more than you’d expect.

One guitar had active pickups fitted.

A quick search of the model confirmed it had originally left the factory with a passive pickup system.

That immediately raised a question.

Had somebody fitted active pickups…

…without converting the rest of the electronics to suit?

If that was the case, it could easily explain why the guitar wasn’t working as expected.

I explained my thoughts to the customer and offered some free advice before they made the journey to Llanelli.

In the end, I never heard back.

Maybe they fixed it themselves.

Maybe they decided not to repair it.

Maybe they took it somewhere closer to home.

And that’s okay.

Not every enquiry becomes a customer.

But if five minutes of research and a message saves somebody a wasted journey, I’d rather do that than charge them to tell them something I already suspected.

Sometimes the most valuable tool on the bench…

…isn’t a soldering iron.

It’s knowing what questions to ask first.
